Ex-BSO deputy gets 30 years for raping prisoner

FORT LAUDERDALE — A former Broward Sheriff's Office corrections deputy was sentenced Thursday to 30 years in prison for raping a handcuffed prisoner he was moving from one jail to another.

Charles Edward Floyd, 40, wept openly in court as he addressed his wife and then his mother.

"Baby, I'm sorry, I gotta go. Don't cry for me," he sobbed. "Mom, I love you."

30 years is fine. Execution immediately would be better because it would save tax dollars.

I don’t believe twelve to seventeen years for this act would have been too light a sentence.

If this were his second or third offense, then by all means toss the guy in for life for all I care. With this guy’s background, I don’t think you give the guy a life sentence for a first offense. And at twelve to seventeen years, this could hardly have been seen as a freebie.

Perhaps his time served will wind up being about twenty years when all is said and done.

His attorney, Bob Nichols, argued that the "victim did not appear traumatized after the event." He said the judge should "weigh a lifetime of service to the community versus one day."

"Every person is better than the worst day of their life," Nichols said.

Lazarus said he took issue with Nichols' argument that this crime didn't have the level of violence and injury so many other crimes have.

"All sexual batteries are violent," Lazarus said. Even when "a good person commits an evil deed, nonetheless, he commits an evil deed."

 

Someone drop this guy out of a two story building into a razorwire 5 rolls wide and five rolls high.  Leave him there for a day and release a flock of crows nearby.

I highly doubt this is the first rape this guard has committed. Possible, of course, but not likely.

Forcible rape is a death penalty offense in the Bible if I recall correctly.

Thirty years does not seem to high to me.

I wonder also why Mr. Jeeves assumes the victim was a drunk prostitute.

In some peoples’ minds, rape victims “deserve” it in one way or another. What is up with that?

Maybe this lady was arrested for having an unregistered gun in her purse. Or for stealing something she didn’t steal. Or for having a lot of cash on her, so it was assumed the deals drugs. How do you know?

What if she were a nun that was arrested for trespass.

What if she were a convicted killer? Does that give this guy a license to rape her?

This guy has crap for brains , and I would lay odds this isn’t the first woman he has assaulted.

What ever happened to the days when women guarded women and men guarded men.

We just had a female guard here in my county who was fired for having sex with prisoners.

Go back to women guarding women and men guarding men.

Is there some online course somewhere that black women who bear sons go to learn all these stock lines about what a great guy their little boy is? The lines are always the same in stories like this.

What’s the matter, didn’t get the response you expected? Your argument would have had some power if you focused on a relative of mine. It wouldn’t have changed my answer.

Tweleve to seventeen years behind bars has a big impact on someone’s life. For a first offense, it would suffice.

I believe that what the officer did was terribly wrong. If you think taking away between 1/5th and 1/4th of his life is too light a sentence, then we’ll just have to disagree. Thanks for the alternate opinion.

Any punishment for a crime done under color of government authority should be doubled at a minimum. I really wouldn't have had a problem with this scumbag getting a public execution as a warning to the rest of law enforcement of what will happen to them when they break the law.

If they had not found his semen inside the woman it woulda been a he said/she said incident and, him being a gaurd, would have probably gone free.

I subscribe to that logic myself to a degree. The second offense is where I would buy into this. A first offense isn’t quite there for me. That may be flawed logic, but it’s where I’m at right now.
