Russian strategic sub recalled for inspection
MOSCOW | Tue Dec 21, 2010 12:03am IST
MOSCOW (Reuters) - One of Russia's premier nuclear submarines, slated to carry its next generation of strategic missiles, has been called back from sea trials, possibly delaying deployment, a top weapons designer said on Monday.
The Yuri Dolgoruky, Russia's first Borei-class submarine, was designed to carry the nuclear-capable Bulava intercontinental missiles, which the Kremlin hopes to make the cornerstone of its arsenal over the next decade.
"Right now the cruiser is returning to the shop. I think the work will last half a year," Yuri Solomonov, a top engineer at Moscow's weapons design Institute of Thermotechnics, told a news conference.
The Yuri Dolgoruky had been undergoing sea trials and was expected to go into service in the first half of 2011, and its recall to the dock for further inspections will likely delay its adoption into service by the navy.

Likely Russian deception to get US to sign START... Russia “Look at us, we are weak. Sign START, you have nothing to lose”...

The Senate and the saudi islamic stooge is a bigger threat to America than Putin.
Bring it home quick to prevent another Kursk-like incident

Hey Tiger,
Would you bet your farm this one won’t shoot it self to death?
Evening by the way and Merry Christmas.
Ping.
Ping.
My first reaction was to wish this sub would break up on the way back to port, no hands lost.
There are three areas where I don’t dismiss Russia.
Aircraft
Missiles
Submarines
Russia has put out some fairly good engineers over the decades. Their items may not be as good as ours, but once in a while they hit a home run. And most of these areas have some evidence of real threat within them.
BRAVO!!
Hard to give creedance to anyone who can't tell a sub from a cruiser.
Russian naval terminology, all their nuke subs are classified as “underwater missile cruisers”
Also, Solomonov is chief designer of “Bulava”....
So , Sub i s returning to port+ chief eng. of “Bulava” = re-arming sub with new weapon.
