One week after warning the distraction of repealing dont ask, dont tell could risk Marines lives, Gen. James Amos, commandant of the Marine Corps, pledged to lead the effort to integrate openly gay Marines.
I, and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps [Carlton Kent], will personally lead this effort, thus ensuring the respect and dignity due all Marines, Amos said. On this matter, we look forward to further demonstrating to the American people the discipline and loyalty that have been the hallmark of the United States Marine Corps for over 235 years."
Amos statement sent to reporters came Sunday evening, one day after the Senate adopted the repeal, capping a stunning, climactic day on the chamber floor.
Marine Corps leaders have shown the most resistance to repealing the 17-year old law. Former commandant Gen. James Conway said the Corps pretty macho recruits set them apart from other services.
On Dec. 3, Amos who became the 35th commandant in October and the chiefs of the Army and Air Force told Congress they did not want repeal now, based on the results of a DOD troop survey. The survey found Marines in combat arms units much more opposed to the repeal than other elements of the force, or the complete military.

Here is Amos full statement:
"Fidelity is the essence of the United States Marine Corps. Above all else, we are loyal to the Constitution, our Commander in Chief, Congress, our Chain of Command, and the American people. The House of Representatives and the Senate have voted to repeal Title 10, US Code 654 "Policy Concerning Homosexuality in the United States Armed Forces." As stated during my testimony before Congress in September and again during hearings before the Senate Armed Services Committee earlier this month, the Marine Corps will step out smartly to faithfully implement this new policy. I, and the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, will personally lead this effort, thus ensuring the respect and dignity due all Marines. On this matter, we look forward to further demonstrating to the American people the discipline and loyalty that have been the hallmark of the United States Marine Corps for over 235 years."
This battle is not yet over, and there are ways this could get reversed without Congressional action. But I guarantee you that if the Commandant were not to at least appear to be carrying out his orders, the President would fire him and put someone who really does like the idea of gays in the military in charge.
Never served in the USMC, I was a Naval Aviator, I hold the USMC in great esteem.
I asked you to think. You cannot.
Nice to know.
Should a man participate in integrating a policy that is directly repugnant to his morals? Remember gays could already serve in the military. It was overt gay behavior that was impermissable. Now, I have no dog in the fight. I’m not in the military and don’t have to shower around, undress around, or bunk with gays. How could this not have a negative impact on the finest fighting forces in the world? Sorry. I don’t see principle and leadership being demonstrated here.

I would be personally honored to be fired by Øbama for failure to be his butt buddy in charge of sodomizing the Marines.
From the bogus lies the Pentagon spead showing “support” by the troops for the repeal of DADT, to now this enthusiastic statement by Gen. Amos as he pledges his support to lead the way....
I am disgusted by these Pentagon brass-holes.
Thats a stretch. Acknowleging the law of the land is not the same as agreeing with it.
Seems like a very good idea, now that you bring it up.
Good point.. except for the fact that I don’t have to shower, undress, bunk around, or spend prolonged periods of time in a foxhole with gay men. Otherwise good points. /sarc.
[The Congress shall have Power . . .] To make Rules for the Government and Regulations of the land and naval Forces.
All of the services will implement the law. Get over it.
Never. Influencing yes-men in military, government, or industry to do so is one of Satan's handiest tools.
Interesting. What was the issue that led you to resign (or just Clinton as Commander in Chief in general)? Never heard of this.
You’re absolutely right! He’s in a most terrible position. His job is to do the best for Corps in these circumstances.
Then some of us will be come overt enemies of the military services of the United States of America, as long as they serve Satan's will. My God will not "Get over it".
But answer me this, do you - like Gen. Amos - support the infestation of fags in the Military?
Why not share your thoughts on this forum?
If you support the homosexual agenda you are anti-Constitution and you'll get the zot from FR!
J: Should the Marine Corps ignore the law of the land?
Sounds like support to me.
Yet Jacquerie has had ample opportunity to deny that he/she is opposed to the integration of fags into the Military. He/she has refused to so.
Jacquerie supports a pro-gay agenda.
So now we have a Marine Corps that does not allow enlistees to have Confederate Battle Flag tatoos but fags are fine.
And what happens if the conservatives are right and that any advocacy of traditional doctrines by chaplains is labeled hate speech, with offenders either being punished or simply denied the ability to advance in rank?
As night follows day, this will most assuredly happen.
Homosexualism (the advancement of the homosexual lifestyle and credo) and Christianity cannot co-exist. The Left knows this. By advancing homosexualism in the military, the Left is at the same time dismantling Christianity and Christian values in the military. And they understand this well.
Homosexualism is the enemy of Christianity.
And therefore, I WILL FIGHT HOMOSEXUALISM WITH ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING I HAVE!!
And thank you again, Jim Robinson, for making this forum the vanguard in defending Christian values against the recent homosexualist attack to our military.
(And thank you too, Responsibility2nd and MOST of the others on this thread. I see the zotzapper hasn't got all the homosexualist trolls.)
I also oppose homos being integrated into the armed forces.
But I don’t feel any inner need to point the finger at others or conduct an inquisition on the subject.
I wonder why one would be so adamant about painting others
with a gay brush? Maybe its because you have something to hide?
Um...no, Andrew Sullivan, I won’t just “get over it”. Nor should anyone who cares about protecting honorable fighting men from harrasment (or worse) from gay activists. Gays could already serve. This law allows overt gay behavior. Man I went into the wrong line of work. I should have been civil-rights lawyer. It’s amazing how even the “conservatives” on Freerepublic are so beaten down that they’re willing to take it up the proverbial “ass”. No pun intended.
