Cop shoots, kills family dog (Golden Retriever)

A Clayton County mother of six said the family dog did what he always did when he saw someone. He barked.

But when "Boomer" started barking and running toward a police officer Saturday morning, the officer shot the dog and killed it, Lawrene King told the AJC Sunday night.

“He’s a golden retriever," King said. "He barks, but he’s never bitten anyone.”

A Clayton County police officer was on foot patrol on North Shore Drive when the dog jumped off a porch and started barking and running toward the officer, Capt. Tina Daniel said. The officer ordered the dog to stop and when it didn't, the officer shot and killed the animal in its yard, Daniel said.

The officer, whose name was not released, was responding to a call reporting a suspicious person, police said.

"Goldens CAN be nasty - unlikely, but possible."

True, if a dog has been taunted/abused by local kids, it can view them with prejudice.

Cops on private property, under non-exigent circumstances, without a warrant on the other hand......

No, dogs are fairly close to humans and are governed by the Dog Constitution.

e.g They get one "free" bite.

Just ask PETA.

You’d be seeing me in court, and I’d be moving a new tenant into what used to be your house.

.... the dog ignored the perimeter when it charged...

A statement not upheld by the evidence. The dog was 25' off the porch. No mention of it being anywhere near the property/fence line.

You do not need to resort to lies to push your point.

Already met the dog that got the one free bite. The rest of them just don’t get it.

My gas company wanted to replace the meter and make an appointment. They asked if we had "pets". I said "yup". When the guy came, the dogs were quite happy to see him, but he at least had a heads up.

My dogs have a city "license", so the cops should have a heads up before entering private property w/o a warrant or under exigent circumstances.

If I ever need to shoot a member of your clan in self-defense, I'll be sure to save a bullet

Highly unlikely I'm quite sure. But if you did saving that bullet would be a very good idea. It'd be a far quicker and more merciful end than what Mrs L would do.

Merry Christmas.

You need to project a friendlier attitude, especially towards Mans best friend.

Maybe the post office doesn't hire girly men with an irrational fear of harmless pooches?

“He’s a golden retriever," King said. "He barks, but he’s never bitten anyone.”

There was no way for the officer to know that.

The family had an electric fence, but there was not a sign alerting the officer it was there, Daniel said.

Once again, there was no way for the officer to know there was an electric fence.

Where did I say that the cop had a right to trespass? And where did it even say that the cop was trespassing in the first place?

But hey since public safety personel can’t “trespass” on private property, you go right ahead and tell your local police, fire, and ems that under no circumstance (your house being broken into, house burning down, or you having a heart attack) are they allowed on your property. And while you’re at it tell your local utility companies that they’re not welcome either and watch how fast your services are turned off.

We have a male black lab that we rescued 2 years ago that was dumped in the woods with a broken hip. If anybody ever shot him I GUARANTEE you they would also have to shoot me and my better half at the same time.

This family is in our thoughts and prayers.

I trust the cop’s first-hand judgment over your third-hand judgment.

Your trust in today's law enforcement is not upheld by their track record of honesty when caught doing something they shouldn't.

"My neighbor saw the whole thing," King said. "He was shocked how quickly the officer pulled his gun."
Boomer was killed about 25 feet from his spot on the front porch, close to her front door, King said.

I'll go with the impartial eye-witness over your ass-kissing of the cop.

To be honest, it seems the new breed of cops nowadays seem really scared and paranoid...

Mailmen come across this kind of thing all the time and they seem to deal with it without opening up with guns in neighborhoods full of people and kids...

YOU doubtfully would be doing anything.

Then there are those of us who do inspections and don’t have time for setting appointments since we have to do X number of services on a given route per day.

Maybe the cops should just come on your property and shoot your wife for barking at them?

LOL!
