A Clayton County mother of six said the family dog did what he always did when he saw someone. He barked.
But when "Boomer" started barking and running toward a police officer Saturday morning, the officer shot the dog and killed it, Lawrene King told the AJC Sunday night.
Hes a golden retriever," King said. "He barks, but hes never bitten anyone.
A Clayton County police officer was on foot patrol on North Shore Drive when the dog jumped off a porch and started barking and running toward the officer, Capt. Tina Daniel said. The officer ordered the dog to stop and when it didn't, the officer shot and killed the animal in its yard, Daniel said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was responding to a call reporting a suspicious person, police said.

It charged the perimeter. Whether it was killed before it got there is irrelevant ... the dog ignored the perimeter when it charged, and the cop had no reason to think it was going to stop at an invisible perimeter.

Is it because they're generally attacked by they own disgruntled employees, who aren't not satisfied with their fat bloated lottery style government pensions?
BTW, I was talking about the tens of thousands of mailmen...You know, the ones that go door to door, and into peoples yards..
How is it possible mailmen survive from day to day without gun?
Rolling Pin? Go crack yourself up elsewhere.
I prefer to hold the cop to the same standard I would hold myself. I have a concealed carry, and I’m not sure I wouldn’t have shot that dog.

That was funny stuff Cathy...and you know it...
Now stop dogging me.
Actually it isn't and that will be borne out during the lawsuit I'm sure.
I'll say it again. Anyone, and I do mean anyone, who harms any member of Clan Lurker, 2 legged or 4 legged, is a dead person walking. The only questions remaining are when, where, and how.
My older dog has demonstrated to me the racist reactions of much of the local citizenry as I walk her on a short leash downtown and many step back on seeing her wearing her friendly (Lab) black fur with BIG white teeth demeanor as she marches on. Pretty funny really.
Apparently the same racist folks have finally rising in the USPS seniority ranks to get the walking routes. It's really pure dog racism.
The dog wasn’t running free. The dog was behind an invisible fence.
It doesn’t matter what the breed of dog is, the dog can be dangerous. For those who post here saying that one breed is to be trusted over another is just crazy. All breeds will attack regardless of how much the family that owns them loves them. Someone who is not part of the family has reason to fear and it is your responsibility to keep your dog under control. If your dog came at me like that I would shoot it too. Don’t think that your dog is something anyone else has to or should put up with. I have a friend who has a golden who will rip you a new one if he doesn’t know who you are. They aren’t all friendly and nobody should be assuming that they are. Stupid people to expect others to love their pets. If you love your pet then control it. Otherwise kiss it good bye.
The dog wasn't anywhere NEAR the border of the property. Nor was it a threat to anyone not on the property.
You shoot anything or anyone on someones else's property that is not a valid threat to you and you deserve to get shot in return.
Like I said, I didn’t make the policy that I have to follow.
Most utility companies (contractors included) have the same sort of policy to a degree.
In some cases, the homeowners call in every month with what their meter readings are due to their dogs.
I'm giving you answers to satisfy your curiosity just in case your intent is to try a daring day time street robbery or something.
Don't do it.
If I ever need to shoot a member of your clan in self-defense, I’ll be sure to save a bullet.

I know that in that situation I would not have shot the dog.
95% of goldens are loving fluffballs. The other 5% are mean, vicious creatures.
We had a horrible golden in our neighborhood once. He hated children for some reason. We couldn’t wait at the bus stop without the parents chasing the dog away. It had bitten one of the kids. It tried to jump through our picture window to get to the kids.
Had my father been carrying as he does now, that dog would have met the same fate as “Boomer”, with every justification. Instead, it just ended up with animal control (often) until the owner got tired of paying the fine.
Goldens CAN be nasty - unlikely, but possible.
You are unqualified to determine from here whether the dog was a valid threat. I trust the cop’s first-hand judgment over your third-hand judgment.

Bwahahahahahaha!
Look Cliff Clavin, were it my dog, you would still have a boot in your fat ass. That is IF you were still alive.
He should get a job at Walmart.
Dogs are, of course, a different species than humans, so it’s all OK.
