A Clayton County mother of six said the family dog did what he always did when he saw someone. He barked.
But when "Boomer" started barking and running toward a police officer Saturday morning, the officer shot the dog and killed it, Lawrene King told the AJC Sunday night.
Hes a golden retriever," King said. "He barks, but hes never bitten anyone.
A Clayton County police officer was on foot patrol on North Shore Drive when the dog jumped off a porch and started barking and running toward the officer, Capt. Tina Daniel said. The officer ordered the dog to stop and when it didn't, the officer shot and killed the animal in its yard, Daniel said.
The officer, whose name was not released, was responding to a call reporting a suspicious person, police said.

A shame the family dog was killed in its yard. SAD>
My word... I bet you would have defended the North Carolina trooper who shot the 4 month old kitten because he was terrified for his life.
I will admit to lack of knowledge about the practice of mail delivery. I will further admit that I don’t give a damn.
Lighten up, buttercup.
I don’t need a flak jacket — I have a sidearm.

“We still have meter readers in our neighborhood(shortly to be replaced by smart meters) and they manage to go into side and back yards..and make their rounds without a gun or mace. They do carry a stick with a ball on the end.
All dogs are possibly mean, or scared, but dealing with them is as much a part of the job as dealing with people.”
Most of the meter readers that I work with carry mace and/or an Asp.
“I’ve lived a long time and have had many barking dogs come right up to me and I’ve never been bit.”
Then you’re long overdue to be mauled to death by a vicious pack of feral Chihuahuas.
:)
USPS used to have 60,000 bites per year, then they started filing third-party suits to recover damages. Dog bites almost dropped off the screen as people discovered how to confine their animals.
>> Argumentum ad absurdum. And you are doing it wrong. You are only making yourself look like an idiot now.
Condescend much? You stated people shouldn’t take action to defend themselves against aggressive dogs while they’re on their owner’s property. You’re wrong.
I’m not a cop ... but do carry a sidearm (and sopmetimes a backup). I would shoot an attacking dog that appeared unconfined ... even if it was still on the owner’s property. Like I said, I don’t know that this is one of those cases — but it might’ve been.

I like you...:)
Dogs are dogs, and cops should know the difference between retrievers and pits. It's part of their jobs to be community organizers. Dogs are actually their best friends.
Oh. that settles it /s LOL
That only proves how evil and devious Goldens truly are.
They’re obviously slaughtering thousands of people and then cleverly hiding the bodies.

No, that’s your assumption. He said he ordered the dog to stop and when it didn’t... he shot it to death.
In fact, neither of us know what the officer was thinking at that exact moment. But what is the more logical assumption:
(1) The officer thought the dog was attacking him, so he shot the dog in self defense.
(2) The officer did not think the dog was attacking him, so he shot the dog for fun.
“The dog *was* under control.
Put on the collar and then step across the invisible fence.
Youll feel *very* controlled.”
That’s providing if the system works. I’ve seen cases where dogs with those collars roam freely beyond the “fence” because the idiot owner failed to replace the batteries.
You’re right. The jackboots can’t be trusted. I’m sure he was just out looking for some target practice ... luckily he found Old Yeller there to absorb the bullets, otherwise he’d have had to shoot a kid.

“Try reading the article. They have an Invisible Fence.”
And the cop should have known that exactly how ?
I’m no fan of dog-shooting cops, but if it’s barking and charging with no visible means of restraint...
Don’t come on my property attacking my dogs without serious body Armour.
When I was a child, the meanest animal on the block was the chihauhau two houses up. 10 pounds of pure meanness...
good. you are beginning to see the light.
Damn right. My two Newfies (Newfoundland) are aging but still spry. They are most definitely our children, especially since the daughter moved to New York to take a corporate high muckety-muck job in the elite fashion industry. Those pups are our kids and I'd react to any attack on them as an attack on me. Especially on our property.
Who cares? “Invisible” control, by nature, cannot be seen ... the cop couldn’t tell the dog was confined, so he reacted as if it weren’t.
