Years ago, when I was younger and — argueably — more foolish than now, I loved a lady. We had a young daughter and had started another child. I was looking forward with happy anticipation to that second child but my lady was not. Instead, she saw that child as an embarassment to be avoided so she chose to abort it. Of course, I had no say in the matter — the father never does — so I sat at home with our daughter, watching the clock and waiting.
Since then, I have learned of a man and a woman whose son was condemned to death for a terrible murder. They too sat home, watching the clock and dying inside. I think I know how they must have felt.
Today I sat at my computer, watching the vote in the Senate with much the same feeling of dread and overwhelming sadness at the impending doom of our country.
Oh, I know that the end of DADT won’t kill America but with the Healthcare monstrosity, which will never be repealed, only “modified”, plus all the lesser bills, rules and regulations already in the pipeline to “fundamentaly change America”, the greatest country in the history of the world will, within a generation, be reduced to third-world status alongside such luminaries as Kenya, Bangladesh and Haiti. By that point we may be reduced to asking for aid from the likes of France and Italy.
I think I’ve lived too long.
Thanks to the Democraps, Obama and the Obama Health Care Act you don’t have to worry about that much longer.
Sadly, many younger people have been conditioned for the last 30 years for this transformation. Many really don’t comprehend what it means to have economic liberty and other freedoms. They fear their government and are more than happy to conform. This road only leads to tyranny. I hope to be dead when America dies with a whimper.
Today is the second time I have felt the same way as you are now. Health care was the first. I sit here and watch the Nation spin down the hole thru debts that will never be paid, a marxist take over of the Govt. and now sanctioning homosexuality. I joined with thousands of Americans last November to protest and remove from power these people only to be stabbed in the back by my own party. I to am just sick.

Have no fear. Don ‘t surrender yet. These idiots are also mortal and are here temporarily. My family has lived under Communism, fascism, nazism and peronism. They have their day in the sun. But, at the end of the day there the few of us who understand and fight the battles. My grandfather was taken into the forest and shot, my father fought for 7 years in WW II ending with the last 3 years in the US army. I was born in Argentina and we had to come here as a result of my fathers political obstinacy. He started out supporting the communists because they opposed fascism and soon realized they were no better. He did live long enough to see his native Slovenia become independent. No victory is permanent on either side. It is a continuing battle, resistance is not futile. Individualists throughout the world will always continue the struggle. There will always be people like Djilas, Sakharov, Solzenitzin. Just as before them there was Jefferson and Madison. Our mission is to educate and inspire the next generation. The collectivists only last so long and return because people either forget the lessons of history or they aren’t taught those lessons in the first place. Our experiences are great teachers, not just for ourselves but for others as well.
Many days go by that I think exactly the same as you do, perhaps I’ve lived too long. Then I sit back and wonder if this isn’t punishment for the sins I’ve committed in days gone buy.
I share your sense of pessimism. I turned 63 last month. When I was 20 if someone told me how screwed the United States would be in 2010, I would have said he was crazy.
My opinion then was that the US Congress was made up of honorable members who would never vote to undermine the greatness of the country, nor to knowingly put it in harm’s way. Obama has demonstrated severe weakness in the face of our enemies thus inviting aggression. Now, he and his lefty allies have further weakened our military establishment. Just who the hell is going to defend the nation if the Norks or the Iranians actually start something big? Leftists are truly insane.
