WASHINGTON -- In a landmark vote, the Senate on Saturday ended the Clinton-era ban on gays serving openly in the military, marking a major triumph for President Obama, liberals and the gay community.

The final vote to end the Pentagon's 1993 "don't ask, don't tell" policy was 65-31, drawing support from eight Republicans.

The bill now goes to the White House for Obama's signature. He is expected to sign the bill into law next week, a senior White House aide told Fox News.

Anyone have the names of Republicans voting for this BS?

I guess Obama cancount on that Hollywood money for 2012 after all. Pure politics is all this is. They don't care about the military and they frankly they don't care about their gays either. This is all about 2012.

You are correct. The DoD is not compelled to abolish DADT. This bill leaves it up to their discretion. Or so I read while lurking on a disgruntled DU thread. So I could be wrong, but in this case I think the information is correct. DU tends to be very up to speed on homosexual issues. Since they are angry that the DoD gets the final word, I’m guessing [hoping!] it is true.

I wonder if America needs a Pinochet to straighten things out?

The world's greatest intellectual, Thomas Sowell, Ph.d, warned that there may come a day when the American military just won't take it anymore.

Since Obama “is moving hard to the center,” I suppose he’ll veto it?

DADT may be repealed, but Article 125, Uniform Code of Military Justice is still in force.

"(a) Any person subject to this chapter who engages in unnatural carnal copulation with another person of the same or opposite sex or with an animal is guilty of sodomy. Penetration, however slight, is sufficient to complete the offense. (b) Any person found guilty of sodomy shall by punished as a court-martial may direct."

Will the military court-martial homosexuals?

Military will have to stand for it. It's under civilian authority.

There are already more than 35 nations with open service by homosexuals in their militaries including our nearest allies like the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Israelis. Our fighting men (and women) can handle this.

DADT was a poorly conceived policy. The only sensible solutions were open service or no service. The DADT nose-under-the-tent made "no service" to be no option.

Regardless of any actual ill effects of this coming policy change, the political reality will ensure news of any negative outcomes never reaches the People.

Keep the names of the ones that were recently voted in with Tea Party backing and fire them the next time around! We MUST show that we mean business about their sticking to their promises. That RAT in AK that is still in office is one of the ones doing this as well as Scott Brown and Kirk out of IL....those other RINOS are well known to all of us!

I’m not ready to say that this is the death of the country. Geez, get a grip. If one can be repealed, so can another. We just need to oust these fools and get a new prez. Don’t retreat, reload.

In addition to the six Republicans who voted for cloture on the repeal bill — Sens. Scott Brown (R-Mass), Susan Collins (R-Alaska), Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio) — Republicans Sens. Richard Burr (N.C.) and John Ensign (Nev.) voted for the final passage of the repeal bill. Collins had co-sponsored the repeal bill.

None of it changes human nature.

They didn’t think of that part.

If they decide now to “out” themselves that will have consequences. You cannot change human nature to fit liberal utopian BS.

DADT protected people in so many ways, mostly from themselves. It was the best solution given the situation Clinton created.

This blunts further America’s sword. We have been dulling it for years.

McCainiac and Graham didn’t have to dirty their hands by voting FOR the bill, as they were assured it already had enough RINO votes to pass.

I wonder if that means it might go back to what it was before DADT, homosexuals were actively searched out and discharged.

Can the new congress offer a new bill to make it illegal to be a homosexual in the military?

If the Republicans in the House have the courage, there are options:

The way I see it is if DADT is repealed the military should go back to the old rules. Repealing DADT should not mean a gay can openly serve. Then again, that’s assuming our politicians have brains.

The legals of USA have made abortion legal, taken prayer out of schools, legalized homosexuality in military, stealing from taxpayers to give to others has been established, etc, etc, etc.

Satan has come to kill/rob/destroy. That is our enemy and the master of lies/deception has his pawns working at the core to bring our God Bless America down.
