WASHINGTON -- In a landmark vote, the Senate on Saturday ended the Clinton-era ban on gays serving openly in the military, marking a major triumph for President Obama, liberals and the gay community.
The final vote to end the Pentagon's 1993 "don't ask, don't tell" policy was 65-31, drawing support from eight Republicans.
The bill now goes to the White House for Obama's signature. He is expected to sign the bill into law next week, a senior White House aide told Fox News.
Again, because we don’t organize and make noise.
the homo-fascists, the racist minority groups, they all have two things in common: they want to destroy this country and they are organized to be loud.
As I said, many of those on our side are too busy wringing their hands trying to find excuses to lose to find the time to organize and FIGHT. That’s why we’re losing.
Collins, Snowe, and who else?
I don’t have a problem with it. Its silly to have to have people hide who they are. I’ve always thought there was a case to be made for banning homosexuality in the armed service but DADT is offensive and hypocritical. Its like saying a woman can be pregnant but she needs to hide it so people won’t have to face it. This is one fight that is now history.
If you listen to the military leadership, they’re all in favor of it. Starting with Gates and right on down the line. Heard the CNO interviewed yesterday, he says all they’ll need is a little time to review and revise all procedures, no big deal. Onward and upward.
If I take your meaning, you refer to the troops when you say “armed forces”, but according to the surveys they’ve published, the majority are in favor of it too.
I don’t like it either but I believe the military leadership has brought this on by not just resisting it, but by actively encouraging it.
Am I wrong?
See my post #12
Unprincipled swine, the both of them. They vote against cloture, and then vote for the bill itself. They should be booted out of office at the very first opportunity.
I don’t know all the details about this. If a gay soldier hits on a straight soldier, and the straight soldier slugs him/her, will the straight soldier be arrested for a hate crime and dishonorably discharged and sent to prison for the rest of his/her life??
You are correct. The DoD is not compelled to abolish DADT. [This bill leaves it up to their discretion. Or so I read while lurking on a disgruntled DU thread. So I could be wrong, but in this case I think the information is correct. DU tends to be very up to speed on homosexual issues. Since they are angry that the DoD gets the final word, Im guessing [hoping!] it is true.]
So, if that is the case, does that leave it up to the CIC and Secretary of Defense? If so, this just became an issue for every Presidential election.
really.
we have to stop this repeal as if they get this then they will be cross dressing on base, homosexual parties, men holding and kissing on base .
Then they say we can die but cannot marry so overturn DOMA
This HAS TO BE STOPPED.

Makes my son’s decision to take athletic and academic scholarship easy. I advised him against an NROTC or USNA appointment because the PC writing was on the wall and only butt kissing princes are running the show. My father was a Marine, my MOS 0311, 5 uncles in the Navy and Marines and one rogue Air Force mechanic... my son will NEVER join up to the PC pink palaces. What is the policy on blood donations going to be? What if a lovers spat makes someone mad and he decides that he isn’t a “machine” and doesn’t feel like he should pull point or #1 position to clear a room? Lots of “hate” crime going to be prosecuted by JAG, with extra PT, cleaning the latrines and just “being mean” to all the sensitive homosexuals that will look to be offended. This is the end of unit cohesion, good order and discipline. Welcome to the new sensitive Armed Forces. What a joke.
The eight Republicans who joined Democrats in passing the repeal were: Sens. Scott Brown of Massachusetts, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mark Kirk of Illinois, George Voinovich of Ohio, Richard Burr of North Carolina, John Ensign of Nevada and Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine.
Mark Kirk OF COURSE, he is in the closet and is about to come out.
The White House issued a statement from Obama, in which he said: One more nail in America’s coffin.

4 Generations of welfare-dependent "families", along with un-fettered drug use, and now unlimited handouts and benefits to Third World Julio's, and you think We The People are gonna take up arms?
Lynching is the way to go now, whereas you get caught in the act and you hang from a tree.....Lawyers and Judges and the ACLU be damned?
keep their names up on the front page of this site and lets now go after them to get them fired.
The GOP needs to be reminded that they had better get some balls and guts no more appeasing this queer agenda.
It is to legitamize homosexual marriage and their other degenerate practices. To wit: Fisting, anal intercourse, sex with animals, sex with children,to name a few.
