Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., backed off threats today to force a reading of the New START arms-reduction treaty after the White House assailed the delay tactic as a new low.
Senate leaders had estimated that a full reading of the accord could take 15 hours, which would have thrown a wrench into ambitious plans to finish work on New START, an omnibus spending bill, and several other pieces of legislation before the Senate adjourns for the year.

That's all, just a huge sigh.
I will eat my words and admit I was wrong if he actually shows some spine and follows through on what he says he will do.
I like the idea of anyone reading the legislation out loud on the floor. At least we would know that someone has actually read the darn bill for once.
That’s a pretty interesting spin to put on a bunch of freepers who can’t understand what they read.
Why DeMint caved?
Thought the article said why...
He got criticized by the New American Socialist Fascist Par...er, the Democratics.
Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can really hurt me (DeMint?)
Strong enemies and weak friends is the problem.
Well I didn’t agree with that but I understand why she did it...out of courtesy to him for selecting her as his running mate.
Let's get this straight, and you can check if you like, I have no animus to any candidates right now other than Mitt and Ron Paul. I think they are horrendous examples for the party, non conservatives who deserve lots of criticism. I've said dozens of times I like Hunter and have no particular bone to pick with him.
It's his representative here, one self described (aptly) pissant that I find despicable and disgusting.
You can try to defend him if you like, frankly what he does is indefensible. He's deceitful, dishonest, deranged, despicable and frankly, disgusting. You are upset by name calling? Why don't you ask him to stop, he seems to me the grand champion of name callers. He can't post an article or come on a thread without name calling. He never engages in debate, never deals with good answers to his objections, constantly moves the goal posts of any discussion, and yet you have no problem with him.....
Hint: It's not because he prefers someone else to Palin that he's disliked, it's for all the reasons I just mentioned. It's because he can't and won't engage, because he is so dishonest and disrespectful that he now gets all that thrown back in his face.
Frankly, he's so unhinged I think he likes being the troll that he is.
If you want to defend him and join him go right ahead.
My original post to you suggested two things:
1. That it was a correct thing to wait and see what DeMint did yesterday as he deserved the benefit of finding out why he changed tactics.
2. I also suggested you might want to curb your animus towards Sarah Palin and work to ending a common and true enemy, the Obamacrats.
You might want to rethink how you responded to that.
His “price” was that instead of forcing the reading of the entire bill he got Reid to delay consideration of the bill for the same timeframe the reading would have taken.
I’m just reading the responses in this thread and shaking my head sadly. Maybe people ought to get the facts first before denouncing people have consistently stood up for conservatism. This isn’t reflecting will on a number of posters in this thread.
That’s a Straw Man.
DeMint get Reid to agree to delay the vote until later in the week, then he said there’s no need to demand the reading of the bill.
Until all the facts are in, you should hold your fire against a man who’s proven by his actions he’s on our side.

Perhaps you could enlighten me, then.
From where I stand, the avatar of conservatism in the Senate and bulwark against Democrat mischief (i.e., DeMint) rolled over faster than my mother-in-law’s Pomeranian.
“Whew.”
Unfortunately, I stand corrected. McCain, Graham, Brown, etc. will probably ratify it:

Puke.
I guess we’re going to have to have a Velvet Revolution after all.
LOL! their response was so quick they wont only need knee surgery they will need jerk reform
I don’t need to rethink anything. I think pissant can take care of himself.
I think that the constant trashing of Hunter, who isn’t running, is despicable. WTH did he do to deserve the nastiness directed at him? He is a good conservative.
I am not picking on you. You posted to me. I am aware you don’t resort to the petty, silly stuff. But many do.
If you want to go at pissant, people can leave Hunter out of it.
I haven’t joined any ping group. I am on the McCain list, but that has been since 2007.
I stick up for myself and don’t call in the cavalry for help. I will also continue as I have calling out any of these candidates. None of them are perfect. None of them get a pass.
>> De mans actions speak for themselvesAnd theyre screaming RINO
If you followed DeMint, you’d realize he’s a RINO hunter.
And should he fail on that rare occasion, to disparage his character is simply opportunistic.
I am not an opportunist—I’m one of the priveleged few who bears the tax burden for the many; and I’ve had it with faux conservatives who beat their chest on TV and then turn tail when the time to vote arrives.
If Sen. DeMint delivers, I will don sackcloth and ashes and eat worms.
“I quit voting for Republicans two elections ago. A pox on BOTH the Democrat and Republican parties.”
How’s that working out for ya?
‘Did any of them bother calling his office for an explanation before condemning him? Or is it hanging first, trial later?’
Why do that when you can just moan and groan and criticize from behind your keyboard...;) All you have to do is look at which Republicans opposed Jim DeMint to know what the score is. And btw, as that related to Gov. Palin, a high majority of the time, Palin and DeMint are on the same side of most issues and candidates.
“However, even if DeMint has the votes to block passage of START, he allowed himself to be snookered into dropping his demand to have the legislation read on the floor of the Senate, which gives the initial appearance of a surrender on his part.
Someone of his stature should know by now that the lying yellow dog press will attempt to make anything he does look bad to the American people. On first glance, it looks to me like he inadvertently handed them a public relations victory - if not a real one.
Were I Jim DeMint, I would have forced Harry Reid to go to the microphones and capitulate to the Republicans in public. That just would have had to have been part of the deal. The way it looks now, it appears that DeMint is the one who caved.”
++++++++++++++++
I disagree. I think DeMint knows he’s got a large number of battles to fight inside and outside the Republican party, and he’s choosing his battles. That’s not PR surrender or any other kind.
That’s wise.
