DeMint Drops Bid to Delay Action on New START (selling America OUT)
National Journal ^ | December 15, 2010 | By Megan Scully and Rebecca Kaplan

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., backed off threats today to force a reading of the New START arms-reduction treaty after the White House assailed the delay tactic as a “new low.”

Senate leaders had estimated that a full reading of the accord could take 15 hours, which would have thrown a wrench into ambitious plans to finish work on New START, an omnibus spending bill, and several other pieces of legislation before the Senate adjourns for the year.

DeMint has consistently been one of the top three or four most conservative Senators, and none of the FReepers on this thread know all the facts involved, yet they are blasting DeMint as though he were an enemy of the Republic.

Did any of them bother calling his office for an explanation before condemning him? Or is it hanging first, trial later?

These are the typical “useful idiots” the Marxists spoke about. Democrats/Marxists are destroying the country and all they these “conservatives” do is bash Republicans based on liberal media spin.

Meanwhile the only thing that really matters is the Dream act Amnesty and if that will be stopped. No they are more worried about bashing Republicans who have no power now as democrats have all the power.

If the Dream act is not stopped and illegals are not deported soon then the U.S. is done and their will never be another conservative elected ever in the U.S.

Falling for it and or wanting to fall for it. These are puppets of the liberal mainstream media, going after Demint and so helping the democrats who are the socialists destroying the U.S.. These are the usefull idiots the Marxists spoke about. Either that ore they are democrats posing as very dumb duped useful idiots. These so-called conservatives here bashing Demint and all Republicans all the time are full allies of the democrats . So I just call them democrats.

Third party is the only way I guess. Republicans are the same as Democrats. There is no difference.

Whew.

Now if only DeMint and others can make it so the Senate will not pass or even vote on the repeal of DADT.

If it passes in the Senate I may puke to death.

After Lakin’s verdict and the House passing the repeal of DADT, I’m on a hair trigger.

You are right -- he didn't cave, Reid did. Rather than force the poor senate guy to read the bill, Reid agreed to put off consideration until tomorrow, just as if they had to wait for the bill to be read.

There are threads which make me embarrased for the state of conservativism -- this is one of those threads, people jumping to conclusions based on a short excerpt, by a freeper who then put his own spin on the title without learning all the facts.

From the article:

"Senator DeMint opposes ramming the controversial START Treaty in the lame duck session," Denton said. "After Senator DeMint asked for the entire treaty to be read aloud to slow down the process, Senator Reid relented and agreed to delay the debate until tomorrow."

They are running the clock as if the bill is being read, so he essentially is getting exactly what you claim he is giving up. This move did NOTHING other than to save the poor senate guy from having to read a bill to an empty chamber for 15 hours.

Wrong. These guys never give up anything for "nothing".

In this case, Harry Reid was able to make it appear as though Jim DeMint blinked, when in fact, it was he who stood down.

Looks to me (at least tonight) like Reid won the public perception fight.

I hear ya - and even we don't seem to have the full story.

I think I'm going to give this thing a rest, and keep my fingers crossed that DeMint is successful with whatever tactics he decides to employ against these monsters.

‘Rallies and elections appear to do no good.’

Elections do no good, until the folks who are elected actually take office.

When you all stop the animous to other candidates and quit savaging a good conservative like Duncan Hunter who is probably not running, to get back at pissant because he would prefer someone other than Palin, I will stop.

So far all I see is name calling, accusations, comments that are childish and foul(think factmart) and covering up the least positive aspects of a candidates record.

We could be fair and give mulligans to all of them. They would all appear much better if we do that. Then we could all get along. Funny, when I knock Daniels or any other candidate for their record, no one gets nasty. Odd ain’t it?

I won’t take back the fact that Palin did set up that committee on climate change. Cerbon trading was one of the goals. I know this was in 2007, so maybe she has changed her tune since then. I also have said here before that their is no evidence that she agreed it was man caused.

I would ping the person I talked about, but I was told that was no longer necessary. Or maybe it is for some people, but not everyone.
