(Video at link) A Florida high school basketball game turns into a wrestling match after a player body-slammed a referee on the court.

The incident, which was caught on video, shows Desoto High School player Mason Holland, identified by the Fort Myers News-Press, losing his cool after getting ejected during a game against Port Charlotte High School on Monday. He then took his aggression out on the referee, throwing him to the ground.

The refs refused to continue to officiate the game after the incident, giving Port Charlotte a forfeit win.

This means, I sure you are aware, teaching the "tougher half" that what it does is just fine and dandy. Now are you sure you want that language book out?

No, the 'tougher half' then get to spend the remainder of their sentence in Solitary. Being locked in a cell, all alone, without anyone to talk to - seems to have worked for hundred's of years.

I think the Ref should bring Assault charges against this thug.

The 6’ 7” Holland was escorted from the basketball court by a DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office detective who was assigned to the game. Hamm (the referee) told the deputy that he “did not want to see Mason get arrested and go to jail but did want to file a report/charges.”

Perhaps I should have phrased it: “Guarantees him a schollie to a Calipari coached team.”

The thug should be forbidden from playing the rest of his time in H.S. and in college. The NCAA needs to make a rule that if you’re ever convicted of a feloney you’re banned for life. Then if the NBA wants to pay him, so be it.

Also, if this punk is allowed to play the rest of the season all other players should refuse to be on the same court with him.

Being aware of the much higher rate of violent crime among young black men is racist?

Can you point to where I said that? Of course you can't. I simply said the mods do a great job of removing racist content and they do. Racism has no place on FR.

Teach this kid how to ice skate. He has a long career ahead of him as a hockey enforcer.

You are correct, of course.

The comments removed from this thread were hardly intended to further the dispassionate analysis of demographic trends in juvenile crime.

OMG! I couldn’t agree with you more. It is absolutely disgusting how so many refs absolutely! throw games with their “equalizing”. It’s HORRIBLE in hockey and I haven’t watched an NFL game YET that didn’t have this going on. And the consequence is exactly as you suggested....people learn to view “authority” as stooges and any respect goes straight into the gutter.

Surely the NBA is already seeking to get Mason Holland under contract!

Doesn’t matter what is posted here. No leadership is going to take steps to prevent this kind of horrible behavior in this country.

Shh, you don't want thugs to ruin another sport. It is bad enough football and basketball have been taken over by athletes devoid of any sportsmanship. I haven't seen goons of hockey go after refs.

Back in the day, before the max speed limit was lowered to 55, I remember thinking people were “crazy drivers” if they broke the speed limit (then, it was 70 on the freeways) and not all that many did it. When they dropped it to 55, they forever changed the relationship between highway patrol and the citizens - everybody (virtually) became a speeder and “lawbreaker”.

It permanently affected how I see the police, and I have no doubt it is part of the reason we have the rift we do today. It is also why I do not respect the makers and enforcers of traffic laws. It is not about safety. It is about control and money.

the biggest challenge was getting past refs that would make OBVIOUS “equalizing” calls.

So you think your child's team was the only one in this country to encounter amateur referees? That's part of children's sports and has been going on since I was a kid playing little league baseball back in the '50's.....

Nothing's changed except the mindset of the parents of today's youths such as you who choose to make an issue of it as evidenced by your comment about your daughter:

The good news is it teaches the girls to not respect authority

There was a time when kids were allowed to be kids and have fun with their sports. Unfortunately the sports got organized and then the parents got involved.........and once the parents got involved, it no longer was a game but rather a vicarious experience for the parents who never won at anything when they were kids.

I've witnessed the political bullshit that goes on with kids sports when my nephews were playing junior hockey and I saw the same crap with my best friend's son who only wanted to play baseball........

It was an obsession of their coaches to win at all costs and it was the kids who suffered their unwarranted wrath which was ultimately brought on by the coaches who were under pressure to win by their sponsors.............

That ref has a lot of self control. I’m about a foot shorter than that kid, but I would have been in more trouble than him by the time they pulled me off him.
