Speaking before the Senate vote was officially called, yet after the 68 votes needed to advance the bill, the president praised the Senate for moving forward on the package of tax cuts in the procedural vote this evening.
I am pleased to announce at this hour the United States Senate is moving forward on a package of tax cuts that has strong bipartisan support, Obama said in a surprise statement from the Brady Briefing Room of the White House, And this proves that both parties can in fact work together to grow our economy and look out for the American people.
Once a final vote is achieved in the Senate this evening the bill will move over to the House of Representatives. The president urged the House to act quickly on this important matter.
I've been talking with several members of that body, Obama said, I recognize that folks on both sides of the political spectrum are unhappy with certain parts of the package, and I understand those concerns. I share some of them. But that's the nature of compromise: sacrificing something that each of us cares about, to move forward on what matters to all of us.
The president said that taken as a whole the bill does some very good things for Americas economy and the American people.
If there's one thing we can agree on, its the urgent work of protecting middle-class families, removing uncertainty for America's businesses and giving our economy a boost as we head into the new year.
The statement lasted just two minutes and Mr. Obama did not answer any of the many questions shouted after him as he left the briefing room. It should be noted todays surprise statement was the second time in two weeks that the president has visited the briefing room to pitch for passage of tax cuts, the last being Friday with former President Bill Clinton.
Lick my boots said the man with the big ears and the purple lips.
Did he permission from Bubba to go it alone?
Every member of the House should bend over when they vote.
he get permission
The Democrats will BURY us with this CRAP BILL!!
START OVER WHEN YOU ARE IN POWER IDIOTS!!
Act quickly so the libs can pass the Dream Act! B@stards
Wht tax cuts?
All spending bills must come from the house, not the senate. This shows me that republicans are selling us down the socialist road still.
That's because he couldn't have answered them even if he had wanted to. He too dumb.
In any case, this is a horrible bill, now full of things that have nothing to do with the Bush tax laws and bascially constituting TARP II, and the GOP should just vote against it and then return and pass a different bill in the new session.
Spewing the "tax cut" B.S. again I see.
Wasn’t there an election on 11/2? Didn’t the rats lose? Wasn’t the GOP going to undertake a more conservative fiscal policy? Never mind. I must have been hallucinating.
the House bill will not be the same, so there will be another opportunity to kill it.
In order to get around this small problem (the US Constitution), the Senate takes an already existing spending bill that originated in the House, completely guts it of its provisions, fills it back up with new amendments and sends it back to the house. Bingo, an end run!
Also, as per your tag line, it is not "Mitch" McConnell, it is as of today from Obama, "Mike" McConnell!
What are the chances the stupid party can once gain grab defeat from the jaws of victory? With all those RINOs and low IQ/high BS folks, I’d say it is good.
“Mike” and Berry must have had a meeting of the minds?
Yes..act quickly and pass it before you find out whats in it....idiots. There’s enough PORK in there to make a Muslim vomit.
Do we know who the 15 (?) Republicans who voted for cloture were? Can’t find it...
wow that would be AMAZING!
rofl
Their whole agenda for the lame duck would go down the tubs.
