Palin Urges Americans ‘Not to Forget Haiti’
NY Times ^ | 12/13/10 | Mike Shear

Sarah Palin, the former governor of Alaska, urged Americans “not to forget Haiti” as she spent the weekend in the earthquake-ravaged country, the Associated Press reported.

The onetime vice-presidential candidate declined to answer questions from reporters at a brief news conference, saying, “We don’t need to be getting political here today, O.K., folks.”

Ms. Palin had joined the evangelist Franklin Graham and his organization, Samaritan’s Purse, in a tour of the devastation. In her brief remarks, the A.P. said she urged a military airlift of supplies.

“I know that there’s been some discussion of U.S. aid perhaps being lifted from this area,” she said. “Again — not to get political — but if some of the politicians would come here and see the conditions, perhaps they would see a need for, say, a military airlift to come bring supplies that are so needed here.”

Well, she went to Haiti to burnish her Foreign Policy cred, instead she stepped in it. Oh well, not unexpected.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I love Sarah but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

For decades the USA has given more to “less fortunate” countries than any other country in the world and these intelligence deprived cultures continue to be cesspools. And usually cesspools that bitch about us.

The USA has a huge deficit and a self induced bad economy and until that is fixed ZERO dollars should leave our shores to help those who have demonstrated their only single ability in life is to hold out their hands.

I put the quotes on “less fortunate” as it is obvious, without the pressures of political correctness, these cultures and people have a solid hold on the left side of the intelligence bell curve.

Sarah was in Haiti and by seeing the crisis first hand utilized her executive experience to assess the situation. With that she has determined that more American aid is needed and that being the case, the US should follow through on Palin’s recommendation.

Why should we have to do it. We have our own mess and we have given millions!

There are several issues the first is what happened to the government and what is their role for their country.

What happened to the existing aid?

The facts are it is so corrupt there it is mostly gone and the only saving option is the American people. It is understandable of the recommendation as the last best hope is, the last best hope but, it cannot be given like under the current administration.

that’s why, right after the earthquake, Haiti refused to let the US military distribute aid. Unless the Haitian government can steal it, they don’t want to let it into the country.

You forgot the unkindest cut of all.
Like all useless countries worldwide run by Kleptocracies, even assuming that they would permit the US to transport and distribute the aid, the government there demands that we pay import duty, landing fees, docking fees, etc, on every last item to be distributed!

With sincerest apologies, I'm afraid I must pass.

I am almost becoming an isolationist. I’m tired of the government giving foreign aid which usually ends up in the hands of dictators.

Haiti is a lost cause... for a long time.

Still there are individuals there who are suffering and need help.

Franklin Graham is bringing aid and money from private donors. I think Sarah’s respect for him and general compassion led to her decision to go.

I don’t fault her for it.

Last I heard the money pledged to Haiti hasn’t been forthcoming.

Americans are broke and unemployed. All of that money sent for Katrina disappeared. It will in Haiti too because they need something other than only charity.

They just had elections and the people tried to change their government, but the elections were essentially stolen by the party of the current president (Preval) and the US is ignoring calls for observers and assistance in the run-off election to be held. Don’t forget, both Clinton and Obama have ties to Aristide and to the subsequent thieving leftist governments that followed him. Clinton particularly has business ties to the family.

Palin looses me here, I’m tired of caring about the whole world, we need help here in this country. Who’s going to help us? Haiti is a cesspool and a lost cause, it’s beyond help.

Sounds like a workable plan. I’m not sure just what type of adults you would have from children who never had parents to hold and hug them when they are afraid of the noises in the night.

“Sarah is right on target again with her statement that additional US airlifts to Haiti will help solve the Haiti Crisis.”

Nothing can save Haiti. It's a basket-case.

Totally consistent with who she is.

American Christian relief organizations were some of the first on the ground in Haiti, some of the largest relief operations at the height of the relief effort, and among those that have continued the relief efforts there, after some others have slacked off.

Their efforts alone will not “cure” what ails Haiti most - a multi-decades long pandemic of corruption that continues today.

But, to many of those most in need in Haiti, their efforts will not be forgotten.

What if she said something like this? Its time America tightens the belt, gets back to work, become a rich country again and give to those less fortunate but right now we are broke, sorry. Harsh but true.

Haiti does break my heart. There are alot of places that break my heart but we are NOT GOOD to anyone if we dont stay free, democratic and strong. IMHO

We have all we can handle just trying to take care of ourselves and neighbors. I have no extra anything to give to these people in Haiti. There are plenty in my community that need help, that’s where mine goes, not overseas. We are not millionaires who can travel and donate............
