RNC Chairman Steele to Announce He Won't Run for Second Term as Chairman

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is expected to announce he will drop out of the highly contested race to keep his post, sources told FoxNews.com on Sunday.

Fox News has confirmed Steele sent an e-mail to committee members Saturday night with the subject line, “conference call.”

In the note, he asked members to join him "for a private conference call" Monday evening.

Republicans picked up 63 seats in the House, narrowed the gap in the Senate and picked up 19 state legislative bodies in the November midterm election, but pressure has been mounting all year for Steele to step down from the position.

Critics have described the chairman as gaffe-prone and said he hasn't raised enough money. The criticism has resulted in an array of challenges for Steele's job from Wisconsin Republican Party Chairman Reince Priebus, former RNC Co-Chairwoman Ann Wagner, longtime Republican official Maria Cino, former Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis and former RNC Political Director Gentry Collins.

The fierce competition will end next month with the selection of a chairman for the 2012 election cycle.

Not only is this good news, but I hope to make money from his departure. His departure contract at Intrade is going up.

Christmas comes early this year. Thanks Santa!

Too bad I will likely hate the country club wipe they replace him with. It is never a conservative and never will be.

Would be a big mistake for Palin to be head of RNC, this would only add unnecessary dirty baggage that would detract from any chance in 2012.

For RNC, I say Ken Blackwell. Race has nothing to do with this, its character and toughness to herd cats.

No worries. I enjoy pulling people’s chains. That dude is classic. Took me quite a while to find the right “look.”

I'm surprised none of the people supporting him for RNC Chair have complained. But you're right, nothing quite says "Reince Priebus" like that image. I can even visualize what I'd expect "Reince Priebus" to say:

"Should I ascend to the post of party magistrate, I shall challenge Mr. Barry in a fencing match to defend his honour! I must warn him now that he will be no match in the arena for my Épée!"

Followed by Priebus removing a white glove and slapping Obama. ;-)

Come on you whiners... he wasn’t THAT bad... you have to give him some kudos for his performance. He was in the hot seat.. if the GOP lost..he gets the blame and IF they win..he gets the glory! He orchestrates the biggest win in 70 years and you stick a pencil in his eye? BS.
