December 12, 2010 8:41 AM
ORLAND PARK, Ill. (STMW) - A man died Saturday night after he was shot with his own gun while attempting to rob a tanning salon in southwest suburban Orland Park.
Police received a call at 6:36 p.m. of an armed robbery occuring at L.A. Tan, 15633 S. 94th Ave, according to a release from Orland Police.
Surveillance video from inside the business showed that a man entered the business, announced a robbery and pointed a handgun at a female employee, according to the release. The man then ordered a female customer using a tanning bed to tie the hands and feet of the female employee with rope he had brought with him.
A male customer entered the business minutes later for a scheduled appointment and the suspect pointed the handgun at him and ordered the customer to tie his hands together, according to police.
The male customer then grabbed the handgun away from the suspect, police said. The man moved aggresively toward the male customer, who then shot the man twice with the gun, police said.
The unidentified man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiners office.
The suspects name has not been confirmed and is pending identification by family members or fingerprints, according to the release. A vehicle belived to be the suspects was recovered near the scene, the release said.
The male customer, female customer and female employee were unharmed, according to the release. The handgun was also recovered at the scene.
The male customer, who cooperated fully with police, was released without charges and Orland Police are continuing their investigation.
Wrong show. The Nelson family had their own show and it did not include The Beave.
You are assuming the pukes can read. They cant.Just let it be their last surprise on the way to the great dirtnap.
Yeah, that was a bit confusing, but I think ‘the customer’ refers to the female customer he’d previously ordered to tie the hands of the female employee.
You’re completely correct! Why I post before coffee and breakfast,,,,,,,,??
They could alway’s post them in gangland hand sign’s,just a thought, personally i’d prefer just shooting them.
Ricky? Are you thinking of My Three Sons?
Ozzy and Harriet. Posted before coffee!
Typical street thugs are operating with IQs of around 80. They don't put much thought into either planning or getting away with their crimes. They act on impulse. He was likely in the vicinity of the salon when he suddenly had the urge to rob it.
The snoozman was so surprised he forgot to delete it?
The would be robber planned enough to bring a rope.
I love happy endings!
Unlike the biggest robber of all who takes billions from taxpayers with only the stroke of a pen!
So true.I like the grand Torino way.
This was a tanning salon, not a massage joint... {:0)
(I posted this locally as I’m on the border)
Fellow liberal-tards and Dem lightweights of Illinois, why is the hero who stopped the assailant not also charged with a felony and in jail?
After all, it is your tyrannical anti-freedom and anti-Constitutional gun laws put in place by your elected ruling class that edict:
* It is unlawful to possess any firearm or ammunition without a valid FOID.
* It is unlawful for any person to possess any firearm with intent to use it unlawfully against another.
* It is unlawful to carry or possess any firearm in any vehicle or concealed on or about the person, except on one’s land or or fixed place of business.
* It is unlawful to carry or possess any firearm on any public street or other public lands within the corporate limits of a city, village, or incorporated town, except when: an invitee thereon or therein, for the purpose of the display of firearms or the lawful commerce in firearms.
Does the hero hold a Firearms Owners Identification Card (FOID)?
Regardless, this person is still violating all the proceeding counts; look what more gunfire did, another person dead, and you let an unauthorized gun carrier in a public place discharge the weapon against the perp unlawfully???
Regardless of the hero’s intentions, I thought you elected your beloved statist officials to take care of you with the domestic police force? Because clearly the populace of the nanny state Illinois do not believe in personal protection, what makes this circumstance any different, is it not the law enforcement and all other agencies to provide your safety?
You people make me sick and you’re a bunch of elitist phony hypocrites, which is why the fallout of blood spattered innocents as a result of non permissive areas for firearms rests ENTIRELY ON YOUR SHOULDERS AND WHO YOU ELECTED.
If it had not been from this hero citizen most likely the killer would have gone on to kill again.
No thanks to the incompetent Will County police and prosecutors who have a history of wrongly arresting innocent persons and sometimes prosecuting and wrongly convicting the innocent to the detriment of all of us when the real killers remain free amongst us.
Good shooting, Citizen (with the perps gun. no less!) Civilization thanks you.
Slain Orland Park robber’s gun is a match to ‘honeybee killer’
12/14/2010, 6:04 am
The Daily Journal staff report
Gary L. Amaya, 48, of Rankin, who was gunned down during an attempted robbery in an Orland Park tanning salon, is suspected of being the “honeybee killer.”
The ballistics tests on the .38 caliber revolver found at the scene of an Orland Park tanning salon attempted robbery reveal it was the same gun used in the Oct. 5 shootings in Beecher and Indiana that left one man dead and two injured, a Chicago news station is reporting.
Police tests showed the gun of Gary Amaya, 48, of Rankin, who was killed in the weekend robbery attempt, was the same used in the shootings and authorities are searching his home, suspecting he may be the “honeybee killer,” WBBM CBS- 2 news said a police source told them.
Amaya was killed during a failed robbery at the L.A. Tan salon at 15633 S. 94th Ave. in Orland Park.
Earlier today, Will County sheriff’s police would say only that they have been asked to review the Orland Park case, according to spokesman Ken Kaupas, but neither Will County or Orland Park police would comment further.
Still, the speculation from “unnamed sources” in news reports was adding up.
* The gun used by Amaya is the same caliber used in the Oct. 5 shooting spree, according to Orland Park police.
* Amaya’s truck, a 1992 light-blue Chevy truck, also matches the description of the one linked to the shootings near Beecher and Lowell.
* Rankin, where Amaya reportedly lives, is 75 miles south of Beecher and about 82 miles south of Orland Park.
* Ballistic test results should determine if the gun matches that used in the October shooting spree.
* Police moved faster than the evidence warranted once before in this case.
Will County police arrested Brian E. Dorian, 37, three days after the Oct. 5 killing in connection with the Beecher shootings. Charges against Dorian, a former Lynwood police officer, were later dropped by Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow after further investigation cleared Dorian as a suspect.
So it is no surprise that police were not saying much Monday.
But what police would say is that Orland Park police responded to an armed robbery call at 6:30 p.m. Saturday from the tanning salon where they found the alleged robber suffering from gunshot wounds.
Surveillance video from the salon showed an armed man with a rope entering the business and ordering a customer to tie the hands and feet of a female employee. Minutes later, the gunman pointed his weapon at a male customer who had entered the shop. The gunman reportedly ordered the customer to tie the male customer’s hands together.
A fight ensued and the robber was shot twice by the male customer, according to police. The robber was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
No charges have been brought against the shooter, according to police.
A spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Amaya as the victim.
On Oct. 5, a gunman killed 45-year-old Rolando Alonso and wounded another man at a rural Beecher construction site. Forty-five minutes later, a man in a similar pickup truck shot and wounded farmer Keith Dahl near Lowell.
The man was nicknamed the “honeybee” gunman because that was what he discussed with Dahl before shooting him.
