Democrats made gains in Calif., but can they fix the Golden State?
Washington Post ^ | Dan Balz

SACRAMENTO - In the Year of the Republicans, California is the great exception. Whatever force hit the rest of the country in November stopped at the California border. Democrats won every statewide office on the ballot. They increased their already hefty majority in the State Assembly and maintain a sizable majority in the Senate. Their congressional delegation remains intact, as well. For Democrats, that is cause for celebration, given the battering they took almost everywhere else. But it is also cause for sober reflection. Are they up to the task of governing?

“... Goes something like this: “Leave us alone to live our lives in peace and we will get along fine, if that is not satisfactory, we will deal with it.” ... “

Dittos to that! The version of that statement taught to me had a bit more to it ... “... we will deal with it and you won’t like the result.”

“Two big radical left wing changes are coming according to
the Capital Guy and Radio Host Brian Sussman :
1. Jerry Brown has been working with the Dems in State houses to rewrite the meaning of Prop 13 so they plan to jack both Residential and Commercial property taxes thru the ROOF.
2. Mark Leno's SB 810 bill which was vetoed twice will be rammed thru and Brown will sign it and the Dems can eliminate all private health insurance and hire a whole new sea of SEIU nutters to control all CA residence health-care and a whole new sea of taxes to finance it.

Remember the State Budget does not need 2/3 vote to pass anymore !!! “

And we got rid of Davis for not keeping the lights on, mess with peoples property tax and Moonbeam will have issues. Republicans AND Democrats would vote him out IMO.

No way will they cut services, because government services, inefficient as they may be, provide make-work employment and job security for one of the Dems’ richest and heaviest-donating enablers, the state-and-local-government employee unions.

It’s all well and good that you feel that way, but liberals are “messing with Texas” right in your face and you’re doing the same things California did 30 years ago, which is to say either nothing, or enabling.

Like it or not, without the Mexicans, the political climate in Ca. was a horserace; if you had decent candidates, it was possible to win an election. We elected Reagan twice. But Mexicans vote better than 2 to 1 for whoever promises the most free stuff and/or speaks the most spanish. Without fail. So there it is.

The only way to keep your state is to
1. Stop the freebies
2. Seal your border
3. Hammer employers of illegals.
4. Regain control of your education system
Undesirables will deport themselves to California, Mexico, or wherever.

Thanks. But I think I know how that “the last white farmer in Zimbabwe” feels. I have lived my whole life in Calif. and to see it destroyed is tough.

Good, I hope it’s something we’d all like to see. I miss movies that allowed you to leave the theater feeling good about everything.

“Oh, I just noticed, you’re from CA.
I repeat, TX is not, nor will ever be CA.
Yes, we have illegals. Yes, South TX is a political mess.
But the “lefties” do not run the state and if they ever think they will try....there will be a serious lesson learned.”

Inescapable truth:
Demography is destiny.

I admire your pluck and determination (your moniker implies that [like me] you are older), but even though Texas remains staunchly conservative _today_, it is destined to become less so in the future.

It will be twenty years before all those newborns of illegals become voters. But someday they WILL become exactly that. And one thing I can assure you is that when they do, they will NOT “vote like you”.

South and West Texas will probably become a part of “emerging Atzlan”. Perhaps the best chance for the rest of the state may be to divide and cordon off the growing Mestizo population into their own area.

Some years ago, there was a poster here on FR by the name of “JoeSixPack”. He is gone, but his warning that California’s illegal problems would spread far and wide was prophetic and dead-on.

There’s an old saying (may be attributed or mis-attributed to Trotsky) that “you may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you.”

To paraphrase, Texas (and old Texans) may not be interested in the illegals, but illegals are interested in Texas!

Oregon? Beautiful place, but aren’t its politics a lot like California’s?

Just asking.

Old saying, “Change your address, change your luck”-

Hope your move brings you and your family good fortune. :)

‘California is run and ruined by unions; case closed.’

That's it, in a nutshell. It is not the ethnic make up of the state. It is balkanization of its politics.

This epic invasion left the borders of California, and the southwest 20 years ago...It's now coast to coast and getting worse by the day...Just look at Parkland in Dallas....

You have two states - Texas and California - in similar circumstances. Both are facing massive budget deficits. Texas has a Republican super majority in their legislature and the California legislature is firmly in Democrat hands. It will be interesting to watch how these two states tackle their fiscal problems, the solutions they come up with, and which one comes out stronger in the end. I’m betting it won’t be California.

Your header:

“nonsensical tripe served fresh on the internets”

Life is not all about race. Generalities about race do not accurately describe what is in the hearts of men. (or women).

Observation: Black (self-described minorities) do not generally play well with Hispanic (self-described minorities). (usually the rub comes when one of the other group poaches a daughter, sister or friend) The more enlightened (not “educated”) of both groups are above “group think” that hobbles both.

“Good, I hope it’s something we’d all like to see. I miss movies that allowed you to leave the theater feeling good about everything.”

It is a romantic comedy along the lines of Waking Ned Devine, or Calender Girls. Shoot in Scotland or Ireland, Studio work prably UK.
