The name of Iranian ayatollah Seyyed Hossein Kazemeyni Boroujerdi is little known outside his own country, which is unfortunate. Ayatollah Boroujerdi has been held in Tehrans notorious Evin prison since 2006.
Boroujerdi, aged 50, is an heir to a distinguished Shia clerical family. He was born in Tehran and educated in the Shia religious center of Qom. Like his father, Grand Ayatollah Seyyed Mohammad Ali Kazemeyni Boroujerdi (1924-2002), Boroujerdi preaches the pre-Khomeini interpretation of Iranian Shiism, which calls for religion to be kept apart from politics. His health has been badly affected by the conditions of his imprisonment, yet he has continued, from his cell, to denounce the regime of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Unlike the competing clerics who challenged the ruling duo in last years challenged balloting, Boroujerdi has become a consistent champion of secularism. He has declared, the regime is adamant that either people adhere to political Islam or be jailed, exiled or killed. Its behavior is no different from that of Osama bin Laden or Mullah Omar.

Yes, the concept of Supreme Leader, Assembly of Experts, Council of Guardians, etc. are all a perversion of Shi’ism cooked up by Khomeini. Rule by the religious establishment has had its predictable effect over the past thirty years. mosque attendance is at its lowest in that country’s history. When the regime goes down, mullahs will be decorating lampposts across the country.
It’s just unfortunate the guy looks exactly like Paul Krugman.
“When the regime goes down, mullahs will be decorating lampposts across the country.”
I hope you’re right. I also hope that many members of the Basij are hanging right alongside the mullahs.
A light shinning in the darkness.
I get the impression that is at least somewhat common for dissidents and protesters in Iran to express pro-Jewish opinions, shout pro-Israeli slogans, and the like.
I don't think it can be just because they know it pisses off their illegitimate leaders. There has to be something deeper than that, but I'm not knowledgeable enough to grasp just what it might be.
There was a thriving Jewish population in Persia since before Christ. Same in Egypt and the Arabian peninsula. Sadly most of these wonderful communities have been driven out by radical Islam. Same with the Christians of various description such as Coptic, Armenian, etc. I’m not terrible literate on the subject but have picked it up here and there. Now I want to go pick grapes for the Israelis but am too old. :-(
Nice photo. You can be sure he doesn’t look that well anymore since his imprisonment.
Indeed.

the operative word being imprisoned.
Unlike the competing clerics who challenged the ruling duo in last year's challenged balloting, Boroujerdi has become a consistent champion of secularism. He has declared, "the regime is adamant that either people adhere to political Islam or be jailed, exiled or killed. Its behavior is no different from that of Osama bin Laden or Mullah Omar."
>>>>”He was born in Tehran and educated in the Shia religious center of Qom.”<<<<
Whilst Boroujerdi is a so-called “secularist”, any Shia Cleric who has or has had any formal education in a Shia seminary, particularly “in the Shia religious center of Qom”, in Iran, must know that Shia Islam, like Sunni Islam, is about what is called Political Islam.
Islam and Politics are inseparable. Take a very close look at its history & doctrine.
In fact, Shia Islam was brought about, specifically, for political reasons in its inception in the 7th century Arabia & later on, formally, circa early 17th century in Iran.
In fact, SUNNI Muslims can be & are often more SECULAR.
Boroujerdi, must know it without a doubt.
Whether Boroujerdi wants to or has wanted to deviate from the mentioned Islamic political ideoloy is a separate matter. His followers are not sufficient in numbers to make or have made a difference any way.
Actually, I would blame Shia clerics such as Boroujerdi for the mess in Iran. They influenced key political figures in Iran such as the Shah at the time, who in his faith in Islam, as well as other matters, became indecisive to take action against not the radicals, but those who truly believed in the CORE of Islamic doctrine, ideology, history & teachings, including its prophet Mohammad’s actions.
Let’s call a spade a spade, and not window-dress it to make it more acceptable.
Meanwhile nice Imammy thinking: When we kill all steenkin Joos and infidels from all countries especially America, ha, it has almost fallen; we will make beeg wasteland like once was because no arab knows how to farm, we get dhimmi's from America soon, stupid idiots actually believe our lies, muahahahaha"

They will all be our slaves when Abu Hussein Obama, muslim brotherhood, liberal Joos and liberal scum A*cough*mericunz that fool Chavez and so many more eating our propaganda by the day...first Oklahoma, first New York mosque then ALL submit to our lies.

"Dad burned Maccabees, may all Joo children suck the dry teat of poisoned goat milk until allah kills them all."
What Immay says aloud:" *ahem* LOVELY Dreidals for ALL Jewish children in all land. Such fun game!"
What Immamy is truly thinking:* I hope the timers are working or Achamuud will be dead suicide bomber*
Thanks odds.
You’re welcome.
AntiMullah broke this story worldwide and translated relevant points into English.Ayatollah Boroujerdi and the late-Ayatollah Montazeri, both were anti-Khomeini clerics.
Grand Ayatollah Montazeri was ousted from succeeding Khomeini for this reason and Boroujerdi has suffered unspeakable hardships where starvation and witholding of his vital medications have beconme an ongoing effort to hasten his death. (Ayatollahs cannot be formally executed but if they happen to die......!).

Of course they all wanted Democracy in Iran ... After all, nobody heard people shouting: “We Want Democracy ... Death to the Shah” ..
Although, plenty heard: “Allah_o_Akbar.. Death to the Shah” ..
No doubt & thanks to the Mullahs in Iran & Co., who brainwashed people over the decades/centuries, in the first place.
I suspect Montazeri & so be it Boroujerdi will eventually have a massive party in some place with Khomeini et al, even by default.
Thanks FARS.
