New "Narnia" Film Stirs Religious Controversy [Aslan represents Mohammed too]
ABC News ^ | 12/9/10 | Paul Bond

The studios behind the new "Narnia" movie are walking a tightrope in their quest to promote the third film in the fantasy franchise to a Christian audience and to general moviegoers.

But they also are going out of their way not to pigeonhole the film as something that will appeal just to the world's 2.2 billion Christians.

Case in point is Liam Neeson, who voices Aslan, the resurrected lion in the upcoming film. The actor said at a news conference last week that his character doesn't necessarily represent Christ. That might be news to Lewis, though, who wrote the opposite before he died in 1963.

"Aslan symbolizes a Christlike figure, but he also symbolizes for me Mohammed, Buddha and all the great spiritual leaders and prophets over the centuries," Neeson said.

"Dawn Treader" producer Mark Johnson agrees with the, shall we say, more inclusive analysis from Neeson, telling The Hollywood Reporter that "resurrection exists in so many different religions in one form or another, so it's hardly exclusively Christian."

"We don't want to favor one group over another ... whether these books are Christian, I don't know," Johnson added.

Exaclty. Tash seems an awful lot like Allah, if you ask me.

Calormen certainly seems Arabic/Muslim.

Johnson never read the last book in the series.

Ah, yes ... no difference at all. Mr Neeson must certainly enjoy vanilla pudding for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

That is a very good point.

I know lovers of C.S.Lewis want to see the entire series. This could be a publicity ploy to put a road block on that effort.

On the silly comments by the person who did Aslan’s voice: As a Christians, we should not be surprised that unbelievers will say unchristian things.

Typical lib thinking (or lack thereof). They never consider the Founding Fathers’ principles and beliefs in regard to the Constituion. In this case, if they had a clue about C.S. Lewis and HIS beliefs and principles, this idiocy wouldn’t come out of their mouths. Liberals never draw upon logic when forming opinions; they’re incapable of thinking through an issue.

I love the guy (his acting), Just watched Les “Misérables”.
Great movie. Not to mention, Schindler's List, Nell, K-19: The Widowmaker, Seraphim Falls, Taken, and on & on.

“I question more now. I don't mean that it's all hokum, but I've lost a simple faith. I do still believe, but I like to encompass all religions now. I believe we're all paying homage to God.”

He is an actor. A committed Christian?, it seems not. Like someone else said, get fed from your bible, not the movies.

Again, I’m wrong. I must have had him confused with someone else, as I thought he played Aragorn. I’ll just quit posting now.

"When reading to my kids, I had to “correct” the doctrine of the idea that a follower of Tash was going to the same salvation as those who were followers of Aslan."

Did you also "correct" what Christ said about the salvation of the Good Samaritan when you read Luke 10:25-37?

After reading an article similar to this last week, I was wondering how they will film The Last Battle.

Libs will ALWAYS disregard the wisdom of those that have gone before them in favor of what passes for wisdom in those who think the same way they do.

There is no “brilliance” in deferring to historical or traditional wisdom. There’s no way for a leftist to feel intellectually superior doing that.

So, they prefer to reject all previous, proven wisdom in favor of their own, and then call themselves brilliant.

Rom 1:22
Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools

No ... no need to quit posting ... it's a simple enough mistake. I just throught that maybe I had mis-identified him in one of the other roles.

And that being said, Viggo Mortensen, who did play Aragorn, turned out to be an even bigger lefty than it appears that Liam is.

Yes, and the god Tash was opposed to Aslan.

The great heresy of “The Last Battle” was that Tash and Aslan were actually one being - they called him Tashlan - until the Narnians were out of the room - then it was just Tash again.

Looks like Liam is engaged in the “Tashlan” heresy! ;)

I believe the author was pretty clear on this matter.

“I never figured Neeson for a bimbo.”

How could you not? He’s Hollywood; the default mode is “bimbo/idiot/communist/atheist”. You have to start with that premise. A few fall to the right of that, but it’s not the norm.

No but it does though. They picked an extremist leftist to play a mjor part. That tells me a lot about the makers, and they won’t be getting my money.

i don't see anything wrong with their going with the most talented person available for that part, no matter his political views... but i do understand fully your not wanting to give any money to those who would hire him...

Don’t know the guy, so I will leave it to God to judge the authenticity of any professed faith. I do know that if he thinks Aslan has anything to do with Mohammed or Budda, he doesn’t understand the story of Narnia nor C.S. Lewis.

Someone should give Neeson a copy of CS Lewis’ book “The Problem of Pain”.

Lewis wrote it as a suffering widower searching for answers from a Christian perspective, and Neeson might appreciate more about CS Lewis and Christianity if he read it.

...the main character's voice comes from an anti Christ actor!!!

Say what ? Anti Christ ? Liam Neeson is Roman Catholic. This is a MOVIE, for goodness sake.
