(CNN) - Members of the Westboro Baptist Church announced Thursday plans to picket Saturday's funeral for Elizabeth Edwards in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Kansas-based Church - monitored by anti-hate groups such as the Anti-Defamation league and the Southern Poverty Law Center - is known for its extremist opposition to homosexuals, Jews and other groups.
The church members also oppose the War in Iraq.
According to the church's website, members will hold a protest from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Then they'd show up for sure. Like most rabble rousers, they take the course of least resistance. The larger the counter "protest" the more likely they will either turn tail or not show up at all. Randy'sRight is right - whatever her politics in life, she deserves a silent show of support on her passing.
The tires of the van that the Westboro Baptist was driving were slashed.
Then no one in the town would help the Westboro Baptist folks get the van fixed.
I believe either the State Police or Sheriff's Department had to escort van (with four flat/slashed tires) out of town -- since it was a traffic hazard.
It is a long way from Kansas to North Carolina. I hope they have tires that can withstand the journey...
Or maybe some vigilant folks could look for the van, and make sure these folks miss the funeral...
God bless every single one of those counter protestors.
No. A lot of that group are attorneys. What needs to happen at some point to that group is that about 6 feet of compressed dirt and an inch of stout wood needs to come between the group members and a legal pleading which requires signatures to file.
Not that I am advocating violence or anything, but one of the things I really love about Texas is the “Man Just Needed Killin’” defense that has been (successfully) used in some homicide cases in my adopted state.
a charade is right on. it is pretty obvious. this ploy calling themselves Baptists and then pulling stunts like this... they are likely giggling themselves silly right now! the best thing we could do is ignore them
Make that "ambulance chasing Democrat attorneys" to fully describe the Westboro bunch.
I'll also try to make a point henceforth to never use the term "Baptist" when stating the name of this vile group. They aren't Christian in any way, shape or form. It's an absolute certainty that Fred Phelps and his toadies are America-hating liberals, probably financed by George Soros and his henchmen.
Hope the Patriot Guards will be there. This nonsense has to stop.
Amen.
It is stuff like this that gives true Christians a big black eye.
...and that's just what the forces behind the Westboro Frauds want. But we see through this charade of those Gore supporters (and NAACP honorees) from Topeka.
Of course, onto a more pleasant topic: Congratulations are in order for the Huskies and a great year!
Pardon my outburst — but those fake Christian assholes should have been beaten with pipes and bricks a long, long time ago. Thanks RandysRight.
This is disgusting. What a bunch of sick sobs.
leave the lady and her family alone.
Thank-you for the congrats! :)
I’m probably the only one, but I find the WBC endlessly amusing. I mean, why take them seriously?
For the life of me, I don’t know why people don’t ignore them. If they’re ignored for 6 months, they’ll fade away into oblivion. By counterprotesting, ranting against them, etc., you give them what they want.
But as long as they’re around....honestly, I find them hysterical.
Hank
That is no church but rather a cult of worshipers of the Adversary.
That would be an expensive lot of fun because they would love to be beaten up so that they can sue, make money, and take their assailants for every penny.
They need to be shunned, ignored, outnumbered, and crowded out of anything they try to protest.
If they make a fuss, a bigger fuss should be made by others, so that they are drowned out.
All nice and non-violent and legal-like.
One of their tricks is to try to get people to touch them so that they can sue for assault. Anyone who lays a finger or a weapon on them will end up a homeless street person without a dime in the world.
Depends. :’)
It does indeed. Isolate the target...
