(CNN) - Members of the Westboro Baptist Church announced Thursday plans to picket Saturday's funeral for Elizabeth Edwards in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Kansas-based Church - monitored by anti-hate groups such as the Anti-Defamation league and the Southern Poverty Law Center - is known for its extremist opposition to homosexuals, Jews and other groups.
The church members also oppose the War in Iraq.
According to the church's website, members will hold a protest from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.

It is sad we have to do this during a funeral, but for evil to reign is when good women and men remain silent.
Please only bring American flags. Our groups will remain silent and please no shouting, even if provoked by the members of Westboro Baptist Church. The Patriot Gard riders will not be showing us as a unit since the family has not requesting them, but members will be showing up on their own.
The funeral for Elizabeth Edwards will be held this Saturday, December 11th at the Edenton Street United Methodist Church, 228 W Edenton St, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Many news outlets have reported that the family announced the funeral service will be open to the public. The service starts at 1 pm local time. We plan on ariving at noon.

These people are scum of the earth. Did they miss the part of the gospel where Jesus told people the error of pointing out the splinter in another’s eye when one has a plank of wood in his own?
Thank God for your work.
These people are truly evil and only a little sick.
Wondering if the Edwards family even knows that they could invite the Patriot Guard.
Good work, indeed. Prayers up that it all goes well.
I agree and thank you for this.
Hope their vehicle tires are in better shape this time around, or not. Maybe the repair centers will be to busy to help them, kind of like what happened last time.
Don’t know... the Patriot Guard Riders are pretty specifically dedicated to the services for lost military members. I don’t know if they have ever done something for civilian funerals or not.
God bless the PGR though. They truly do the Lord’s work.
Benchmade makes a really nice tire-deflator tool. It’s a carbon-fiber tube with a sharp point on it. Cuts a nice little hole when you jab it in that isn’t fixable.
I’m just sayin’...
Well put, I obviously dont agree with her either, my condolences to the family still of course.
Thank you for doing this for those of us who cannot.
(and hopefully the family thanks you too.)
Funny how I would NEVER stick up for someone like Mrs. Edwards,...EXCEPT from sick ANIMALS like these!
Seriously, they have nothing better to do than protesting FUNERALS? Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over?(As another freeper put it.)
Amen to that!
There are things I wish I could say, but cannot.
Hopefully, someday, somebody will do those things.
Did the Westboro radicals even give a reason as to why they’re protesting her funeral?
Ok, I’ll say it for you.
Hope someone puts a good fist into the faces of these worthless pieces of $hit.
RIP Mrs. Edwards, you don’t deserve this.
heheh... close... but not exactly what I was thinkin’.
What I feel about the Westboro Cult - My Comment Censored!!!
Westboro Baptist? Not at all. Instead they're the Westboro Democrats.
And their minister lawyer Fred Phelps is a darling of the NAACP. Gore supporters to boot. Sick, twisted liberals...every last one of these Westboro creeps.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if their anti-homosexual stance is just a charade set up by their leftist fellow travelers to discredit authentic Christians.
I have always wondered if Fred or one of the other leaders is gay.
what ever happened to a good old vegetable pelting with lots of rotten tomatoes?? how about riding them out of town on a rail, or tar and feathers??
