(CNN) - Members of the Westboro Baptist Church announced Thursday plans to picket Saturday's funeral for Elizabeth Edwards in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The Kansas-based Church - monitored by anti-hate groups such as the Anti-Defamation league and the Southern Poverty Law Center - is known for its extremist opposition to homosexuals, Jews and other groups.
The church members also oppose the War in Iraq.
According to the church's website, members will hold a protest from 12:15 p.m. to 1 p.m.

As far as the PGR goes:
“The Patriot Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for Americas freedom and security. If you share this respect, please join us.
We dont care what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or whether youre a hawk or a dove. It is not a requirement that you be a veteran. It doesn’t matter where youre from or what your income is; you dont even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.
Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two basic objectives:
1. Show our sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their communities.
2. Shield the mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by any protestor or group of protestors.”
We could find out who. What motels are they frequenting? Where do they get their meals in Raleigh?
Dollars to donuts, it's a fringe group of Center for American Progress that is paying their walking-around money.
There's got to be a way to find out!!!
Out of curiosity, I checked the location out on both Google and Bing maps. It appears to be just a house, but a rather large one at that -- complete with a basketball court (hmmm?) and a swimming pool. There's no area for parking that I could see.
This only reinforces the patently obvious point that the Phelps crew aren't in any way, shape or form an assembly of Christians. They're just a bunch of Gore-supporting Democrat lawyers who hate our military.
The curious part for me is that Phelps has been preaching there since ‘55.
Also, he was active in the civil rights protests of the ‘60’s. Yet now he seems consumed by hate.
Could it be that demetia is part of it? He’s 81. Of course, he has been anti-homosexual for years but he seems to get more extreme all the time.
As I said, “No matter someone’s beliefs, ........”
I disagree with the left, including Elizabeth Edwards, about homo marriage, and do my best to speak and vote against it. My post was about basic decency and common respect. The subject that the Westboro fascists disagree with Elizabeth Edwards about has no bearing on the conduct toward a dead person and her/his family at a time and place of mourning.
I cannot fathom the mentality of any person who, because they have a disagreement with someone about a political or even moral or ethical position, thinks they have the right to behave in such an uncivilized, disrespectful manner.
Bless you!
I hope they did not protest at her funeral. While I might not agree with her & her politics, this is very wrong.
