LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — It was just another suburban fender-bender. A car zoomed into an intersection and braked too late to stop at a red light. The Georgia woman driving it, an American citizen, left with a wrecked auto, a sore neck and a traffic fine. But for Felipa Leonor Valencia, the Mexican woman who was driving the Jeep that was hit that day in March, the damage went far beyond a battered bumper. The crash led Ms. Valencia, an illegal immigrant who did not have a valid driver’s license, to 12 days in detention and the start of deportation proceedings — after 17 years of living in Georgia.
Like Ms. Valencia, an estimated 4.5 million illegal immigrants nationwide are driving regularly, most without licenses, according to an analysis by The New York Times. Only three states — New Mexico, Utah and Washington — currently issue licenses without proof of legal residence in the United States.
Many states have adopted tough new laws to prevent illegal immigrants from driving, while expanding immigration enforcement by the state and local police. As a result, at least 30,000 illegal immigrants who were stopped for common traffic violations in the last three years have ended up in deportation, Department of Homeland Security figures show. The numbers are rapidly increasing, aggravating tensions in the national debate over immigration.

The driver produced what (later) turned out to be a fraudulent DL, fake insurance card, stolen plates, plus phony vehicle registration. My vehicle's bodywork was going to be about $1000 and I had a $500 deductible. It wasn't worth it to make the accident claim. When I appealed to the State Police for help, they simply advised they had been hoodwinked at the accident site and there was nothing they could do about it.
Illegal immigrants are totally harmless and just here to work. Yeah, right.
I believe that there needs to be a federal law that makes any felony committed by an illegal a federal crime with stringent punishment and no parole. States would be free to enact similar statutes with even more stringent punishments. If illegals knew that if they so much as spit on the sidewalk thy would be severely punished and then deported, they might think twice about coming here.

Notice how the NYTimes cherry picks an accident where an American driver collided with an illegal. More often than not, it is the illegal who is causing the accident, very often a tragic accident involving death of others . By their very nature, the illegal is a law breaker and law breaking does not stop with not having a driver's license, it often includes driving while drunk, speeding, etc. Why would they obey any law, after all.
I miss Georgia.

Absolutely not. Illegals arrested for some other, any other, crime should be forced to work much like the old chain gangs. They should be forced to work public projects like highways, etc. We'll give them room and board (a jail cell and two squares a day) and they'll give us labor.

He was just here to work.LA JOYA - A tip led La Joya police on a 30 mile chase that ended with the seizure of more than 400 pounds of pot and the arrest of one man, said Police Chief Jose Del Angel.
The chase began when officers were given the heads-up about a truck that was reported stolen out of San Juan, Del Angel said. When police tried to pull the driver of the truck over, he began heading north and didn’t stop for about 30 miles, he said.
The chase ended when the driver finally pulled over and began running, the police chief said. A U.S. Border Patrol helicopter, which was called in to assist, was able to track and apprehend the suspect before he was able to get away. Police later identified him as 24-year-old Arturo Alaniz from Michoacán, Mexico. He was carrying more than 400 pounds of marijuana in the truck, police said.
Alaniz, a Mexican national who has been deported several times, was charged with possession of marijuana and evading arrest, Del Angel said. Police arrested the driver of a truck involved in a fatal motorcycle accident Tuesday after he failed to properly identify himself.
Omar Ulices Hernandez Rivera, 34, was involved in an accident near 17th Street and Hackberry Avenue shortly after noon Tuesday that resulted in the death of 16-year-old Carlos Ramon of Mission. Police believe Ramon may have run a stop sign, but are still investigating the accident, they said.
Rivera, who has been previously deported, is wanted by immigration officials, police said. He was charged with failure to identify, a class B misdemeanor, and bond was set at $2,000, police said.

I can't see any problem with that since the libtards tell us they came here to work. Hey, if they do a good job, they can even earn the going jailbird rate of 75 cents an hour or whatever it is and wire it home to Mexico.

Since illegal aliens living here are breaking the law...committing a crime, would any death caused by them (ie, drunk driving, etc.) be considered a death in the commission of a crime?

The illegal immigrant accused of killing a Benedictine nun in a drunken driving crash in Prince William County has been indicted for murder.
Carlos A. Martinelly Montano, 23, now faces a charge of felony murder, court records show, for the Aug. 1 crash that killed Sister Denise Mosier, 66.
Authorities allege that Montano was drunk when a Subaru Outback he was driving struck a guardrail then collided head-on with a car carrying Mosier and two other nuns on Bristow Road near Wright Lane.
Montano was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter, drunken driving, and driving on a revoked license.
Sisters Charlotte Lange, 75, and Connie Ruth Lupton, 70, were seriously injured in the crash.
The grand jury also indicted Montano with driving with a revoked license and maiming resulting from drunken driving.
He could receive up to 40 years in prison.
“These are very serious charges,” said Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney Paul Ebert.
Ebert said the “nexus between felonious acts and the death” of Mosier supported the murder charge against Montano.
Ebert said the original charges would likely be dropped in favor of prosecuting the more serious allegations.
“The Benedictine Sisters acknowledge that Carlos Martinelly Montano must be served due justice for his actions,” Sister Cecilia Dwyer said. “We trust that the courts will be moderate and just in the handling of his case.”
The accusations against Montano, who was smuggled into the United States from Bolivia as a child, have sparked outcry over illegal immigration.
When he was charged in the Aug. 1 crash, Montano had two previous DUI convictions. He had been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but was released pending a deportation hearing.
This week, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell told the state Department of Motor Vehicles to stop accepting a federally issued work authorization card as proof of legal status.
Montano had received the employment authorization card in January 2009, months after deportation proceedings had begun for his second DUI offense. Authorities say he used the card to show his legal status when applying for a Virginia ID.
Corey Stewart, chairman of the county board of supervisors, has asked Congress to subpoena federal immigration records to find out how many illegal immigrants were released after arrest.

After coming to Georgia from an ox-and-plow farming village in Mexico, Ms. Valencia had a 12-year career at a fast-food restaurant in a suburban mall, rising from hamburger flipper to cashier to assistant manager. Among her most carefully preserved possessions are two diplomas for the company’s management training courses.
How could someone be here seventeen years, go through a management training course, and still need an interpreter? Also, as someone who once worked in fast food, there's no way I believe she was not taking at least one of those jobs from an American. This is another example of "They're just taking jobs Americans won't do." is a lie.
