There's a song that plays on pop stations with lyrics, "Baby, you'da, you'da best. You da, you da best...."
To which my college-aged daughter let slip is only the radio remix. The iTunes version is "you da f---'ing best ..."

That's entertainment.

Call me old fashioned, but I liked Harry Nilsson:

“You’re breaking my heart, you’re tearing it apart, so f-u.”

Ah hell, this is old hat. In the 70’s Nilsson had a song out called F*uck You.

Here it is, listen for yourself

The Grammys suck. I’ll never forgive them for passing over “Good Vibrations” for “Winchester Cathedral” for Song of the Year. C’mon!!!

And they wonder why they have to resort to suing their customers in a vain and probably futile effort to retain some revenue stream and remain relevant?

I haven't watched an awards show in a couple of decades. I literally cannot remember the last time I bought a CD from these thugs. When they are gone, they won't be missed.

Nilsson years ago did a song with the lyrics:

You’re breakin’ my heart,
you’re tearin’ it apart,
so f-— you.

http://www.rhapsody.com/harry-nilsson/son-of-schmilsson/youre-breaking-my-heart/lyrics.html

I doubt that it got nominated for any awards back then.

I neither watch nor care about the Grammys anymore so I really don’t care who gets them.

These artists like to tell themselves that they are being rebels and that when middle America hears these words, we burst into fits of outrage. However, in terms of this being a statement about society, I think its more a statement of how banal popular culture has become. I’ve never minded swearing, sexual inuendo and other crude talk in music and literature but its very difficult to use appropriately. Almost all “artists” these days simply use it for sensational value, which is banal. Then they confuse the criticism of it with unreasonable Puritanical suppression of their “freedom of expression”.

Garbage. Pure, unadulterated garbage.

You couldn’t pay me enough money to listen to that cRAP.

Positively Shakesperean. I’ll bet such towering talent can’t be found at just any old car wash.

Cole Porter

When the only sound in the empty street,
Is the heavy tread of the heavy feet
That belong to a lonesome cop
I open shop.
When the moon so long has been gazing down
On the wayward ways of this wayward town.
That her smile becomes a smirk,
I go to work.

Love for sale,
Appetising young love for sale.
Love that’s fresh and still unspoiled,
Love that’s only slightly soiled,
Love for sale.
Who will buy?
Who would like to sample my supply?
Who’s prepared to pay the price,
For a trip to paradise?
Love for sale
Let the poets pipe of love
in their childish way,
I know every type of love
Better far than they.
If you want the thrill of love,
I’ve been through the mill of love;
Old love, new love
Every love but true love
Love for sale.

Appetising young love for sale.
If you want to buy my wares.
Follow me and climb the stairs
Love for sale.
Love for sale.

How deep is the decay in the music industry?

Well if they consider "rap" to be music, then is is long since dead.

A crow cawing or a bum beating on a dumpster is more musical than rap.

Their professional lives are dedicated to lowering that which is elevated, destroying that which uplifts, and to profaning that which is held sacred.

This is called deconstruction and is a characteristic of postmodernism. It lowers adults to the level of small children who cannot walk by a sandcastle or a stack of blocks without knocking it down.

Nice. Nice. The Grammy awards have become a combination of no talent and extraordinary self-indulgence. How nice for us. It used to be fun to watch that show. Now it’s like sticking pins in your eyes.

Pity.

The word has been used in songs by many people for years, from Johnny Cash, to James Taylor, to Jimmy Buffett.

But those songs never got radio play because of it. The difference with this song is that its a number one hit and nominated for record of the year, with the word in the title.

I guess its a coarsening, but the only thing you can do is not buy the record and find a better radio station.

Nobody watches the grammys anyway.
