The Department of Defense is slamming the door on questions about the mysterious contrail filmed Nov. 8 by a KCBS television crew near Los Angeles after questions were raised about a warning from the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency that there could be missiles fired in that area at that time.

Yeah well it was common knowledge people saw it and reported it. I am surprise this is news to you. Oh well...
Well your account is the ONLY one on free republic that looks that way. If you are such a tech guru, then why you don’t fix it? Now until you have it fixed I will no longer communicate with you. From what I can tell you are not suppose to be on here according to your profile when I click on it.
Again, you powers of observation are lacking.
No, it's not and apparently you can't find any article to support your case because there isn't one.
Have you seen this?
Only that which is due! :o)
Uhh... yeah whatever helps you sleep better at night. You are killing me. LOL!
While we were working together on another thread, Rokke challenged me to determine the viewpoint and azimuth from which the CBS helicopter made this video frame:
So - I downloaded Google Earth, gave it a try, and here is the result:
Recently, I noticed that a frame from one of Mick West's "Google Earth Movies" nearly matched the video frame's viewpoint -- so I added my azimuth to it:
Compare it with the top VidFrame, and you will see that it matches perfectly -- and it puts the contrail in the video frame precisely on the flight path for UPS 902.
This verification gives me high confidence in the accuracy of this (North-south referenced) azimuth to the contrail very late in its lifetime.
Furthermore, it convinces me that, if we wanted to expend the effort, we could produce a master map of the coastline and nearby ocean, with azimuth vectors from every recorded viewpoint pointing to the position of every image of the contrail -- as it both grew eastward and drifted southward.
AND, we could add in the azimuth for the sun's position -- which should totally destroy the "shadowing" foolishness.
THE QUESTION: Is that more-detailed presentation worth the effort?
MY ANSWER: As sound as our case already is -- probably not -- except for the exercise (and fun) of doing it...
Remember, every year the Nile flooded, and from the time of first settlement until the construction of the Aswan High Dam, it was necessary to RESURVEY the open country used for farming every single time.
The earliest stone age Pharoahs did so with minimal tools and without geometry or a decimal counting system.
They used TRIGONOMETRY. Having once been a math major I had my Euclidian geometry, solid geometry, calculus and TRIG down tight ~ I enjoyed this opportunity to refresh my memory of HOW TO DO IT.
Not that it will make a dent in the impervious and insatiable desire of the "missileers" for it to be something launched by the Chinese.....
In fact, just this summer, I taught a bunch of fifth graders how to make and use the tried & true Pythagorean "3,4,5" string triangle -- for laying out the grid for their archaeological dig with accurate right angles...
But, probably the most valuable aspect of this exercise has been in forcing myself to explore features in "Canvas X" I'd never used before -- such as perspective projection. (Such is not often used in GIS cartography, which is my main use of that powerhouse graphics engine.)
What shadowing foolishness?
Excellent work, but I fear it is all for naught. Some people are just determined to believe that this was a missile launch, and no amount of proof will convince them otherwise.
But your post means you are a member of the vast conspiracy to protect Dr Evil’s diabolical missile from discovery!/s
Kudos.
(pinging a bunch of folks with whom I've had interactions over this issue)
What viewpoint captured it from the south?
;-\
Yeah. Kind of like the Constitution, huh? We gave it a shot, it just didn't pan out. Gotcha.
Signed,
Carlos
The one I just posted -- or, even, a little farther north -- BEFORE the contrail drifted down so far south as to be south of ALL (recorded) viewers. (See #119)
Notice that -- in the last graphic, the contrail is well south of even the helicopter -- and, in the photo, how the contrail "leans" to the left. (Again, see # 119...)
~~~~~~~~~~~
You are your own victim -- of refusing to consider ALL the data and ALL conditions (including contrail drift...)
