The Department of Defense is slamming the door on questions about the mysterious contrail filmed Nov. 8 by a KCBS television crew near Los Angeles after questions were raised about a warning from the National Geo-Spatial Intelligence Agency that there could be missiles fired in that area at that time.

That picture is too far out. Looks like a web cam.. Fail
It is a webcam. Look a bit like a “missile” to you ?
WND said that the solutions were a waste of time - the problem was insolvable, civilization was absolutely going to collapse at the stroke of midnight, cities would panic, food riots would ensue, the government would be rounding up citizens for internment and gunning down resisters. Clinton would declare martial law and cancel the elections. Millions would be killed or die of starvation, not just in the US, but globally.
It was all complete nonsense, but they had people all over the internet in a panic and screaming at everybody who wasn't panicking that they were dupes who trusted the government and they would likely die a few months into the year 2000.
They are a hysterical nutjob site, and have been for a long time.
That doesn't prove there was no missle of course, but citing them as a reliable source makes one look silly.
When you cant argue the facts, then attack the messenger.
I know jets do that, but like I said it would not have been reported if it was just another jet.
We can agree to disagree. Everyone knows the federal government is notorious for lying. Case in point WIKILEAKS if you need a recent example. If you want to believe there line, then you go right ahead. I just know that when someone lies to me a lot, then I have trouble believing them. It goes back to the story of the little boy that cried wolf. Our federal government is that little boy.

Do you have the WND link to validate what you are saying?
At any rate, at that time I did not know about WND.
What I said about clicking your name is true and I know you know that. Thus, why I am suggesting a new name. Nice try....
For the US, it would be GPS based.
China may use GLONASS; I don’t know.
I guess your 'hyping' covers their link to the expert's $99 per year subscription.
“Everyone knows the federal government is notorious for lying.”
True. The other side of it is that CBS isn’t known as a paragon of truth either.
As I see it, there are two possible reasons why the whole video has not been released.
1-The gubberment asked them not to. The edited, cut and looped section of footage that has been released got out before they asked them to not post the whole thing. If this is the case, the whole video is probably gone. The gubberment just got really lucky that KCBS chose to use no footage of the lingering smoke trail with the object disapearing off into the west in their report, and that they chose not to just stick all the uncut footage up on the web before the gubberment stopped them.
2-The whole video would not show boost stages and then 8-9 minutes of a lingering smoke plume. It would show a jet. A local CBS station manipulated the video to make traffic for their website and give the story legs. If this is the case, the whole video is probably gone, in order to save jobs and more black eyes for the CBS name.

Webcam shot off CA coast about the same time the next day:
The point is not whether this is the same plane, but that the illusion is quite a likely explanation. The KCBS camera man said he saw the same thing the week before he shot his infamous video. It looked more spectacular this time so he called it in.
The photo I posted earlier that you thought was not a plane either was shot off California a year earlier.
This effect of contrails has been seen and photographed a great many times. "It doesn't look like a plane" or "it looks like a rocket" is true, but the illusion is not all that rare. You have to go beyond this to have solid proof that it is a missile and not the contrail at sunset illusion.
If we don't, and we say the government lying about it, we only damage credibility in calling the government on it when they do lie. You have to pick your shots and be sure when you do. This one, IMHO, doesn't qualify.
Thanks for your reply.

If this was normal, then it would not have made the national news. Moreover, this would not even be an event.
Again, Nothing of the near portion of the video was anything but a static exhaust plume. The most distant end was “powered flight” but was so far away that nothing could possibly be surmised from it.
None of the rest of your babble is relevent to the subject video. It was traveling northwesterly from a point between 15 and 35 miles away, but the exact distance cannot be determined from the static picture in the video.
Granted the national CBS News is full of it, but this is from a local crew. I don’t know. Like I said before if it was no big deal and just another plane.... Then you would see it often and it would have never made the news. Just my two cents.
It is not reasonable to assume that there were any ships that saw it, but there could have been. If there were, the liklihood that they would have reported anything to anyone but their log is about 5%.
It was, as the cameraman said, like the one the week before but more spectacular. The one the year before was reported on but not picked up nationally. A few days later one in the midwest was reported on. Expect to see more in the future now that CBS went national with one. It is a pretty spectacular sight. I've photographed quite a few myself.
Now, if it had been a big event noticed, photographed by a great number of the ten million citizens 30 miles away, or ANY pilots in the vacinity, then the story would have legs.
I think we should question the media as much as we question the government. KCBS has dropped the story and has not responded to requests to post the entire video - not just the same 15 seconds heavily edited that they erroneously call "raw video." That would clear up a great deal.
You’re playing your strawman game again.
The subject video had a short portion that was vertical, and then a linear path approaching constant elevation in the distance.
The one you posted, on the other hand is entirely constant elevation and headed toward the camera. The difference between the two can be discerned by the shadow portion of the one you posted that is entirely missing from the subject video because it is headed into sunlight.
It started in the light, and headed to the west, remaining lighted.
Just did and thanks.
Well, all I know is that 9-10 minutes of uncut and edited footage of the event would either show a jet or a missile. But for some reason KCBS has only deigned to release less than 20 seconds of actual footage looped, cut and edited together to make up something less than a minute long. They then called this footage “raw” for some reason.
“Like I said before if it was no big deal and just another plane.... Then you would see it often and it would have never made the news.”
Well, it certainly upped the traffic for KCBS, no matter what it was. That is the possible motive, to manufacture a news story out of nothing, like the shark attacks off of florida before 9/11.
