The proposed legislation would not punish news media that publish body-scanner images if they are leaked and posted online, and controversy ensues.

“Only if the news media went and took the picture at the airport themselves, which I’m sure they won’t do,” Schumer said.

Merely an attempt to hide from the public the intrusive nature of the scanners. If people were to become aware of the true nature of the violation of privacy taking place they would be incensed. This is Shumer’s attempt to shield the TSA, nothing more.

The images should evaporate instantly after they've served their immediate purpose.

That's the legislation that should be enacted.

It’s illegal to disseminate classified documents, but I guess no one told Mr. Julian Assange.

Weren’t we told by Big Sis those images would be destroyed almost immediately? Then we find out that TSA people were passing them around.

The bill now makes the publishing of pictures legal. If TMZ or a blog wants to publish them...

So Schumer decreeing something illegal would guarantee the images would never be shared. Riiiight.

Smoking marijuana is illegal, so nobody EVER does it. Rape is illegal, so nobody EVER does it.

I’d like to propose legislation to make distribution of Chuck Schumer illegal.

I really can’t stand that guy.

So it goes beyond security. Your picture can now be exploited by any media.

Why not find out who is the CEO of the company that developed and produces the body scanners and investigate his background and connections with Congress. Always follow the money and you’ll get to the answer why these are even used by the TSA. Investigate the time frame in which these scanners developed.

“accomplishes nothing”

Au contraire.

This is classic Schumer. Hold a press conference on a Saturday or Sunday about something topical and either make unsubstantiated or unwarranted accusations or a useless proposal. It always get Schumer’s name in print, which is its goal.

Keeps people from investigating whether or not he has his own money invested in the scanner company, as well. Good deflection if he does. How many congressmen and folks on the homeland security payroll OWN part of this scanner scheme for real? I know at least four do-just can’t remember where I read about it.
