Obama & Co., Growing Up Fast
NRO ^ | 03dec 2010 | Victor Davi sHansen

Obama and his EU counterparts are learning that high-minded adolescence makes for bad governance. But it’s an expensive lesson.

Old laws predicated on human nature cannot so easily be discarded — even by utopians who think they have the power to cool the planet and stop the rising seas. Borrowed money really has to be paid back. Governments cannot operate without confidentiality. Nations perish if they cannot protect themselves from existential threats. Watching a therapeutic Barack Obama grow up and learn these tragic lessons is as enlightening as it is sometimes scary.

We don’t have time to babysit this bozo. The White House is no place for on-the-job training.

... progressivism, at least as it operates today, is a sort of high-minded adolescence, as sophisticated in faculty-lounge repartee as it is near-suicidal in its actual implementation.

Wrong. Progressivism is Fascism. It's not adolescent. It's not sophisticated.

It's evil.

The term "growing up," as applied to a President of the United States, may remind us of a Robert Frost poem which was cited in Dr. Russell Kirk's great work, "The Conservative Mind."

In Frost's "A Case for Jefferson," Frost writes of the character Harrison:

"Harrison loves my country too
But wants it all made over new.
. . . . But his mind is hardly out of his teens.
With him the love of country means
Blowing it all to smithereens
And having it made over new."

The pseudointellectuals who occupy the White House, the media, and much of Congress fancy themselves "intellectuals."

By their words and actions, however, they display a provinciality reminiscent of that Dr. Kirk recalls as having been described by T. S. Eliot as "one of time and place"--having no intellectual grounding in ideas older than their own little experience in dabbling and discussing Mao, Marx, and other theoreticians.

America's written Constitution deserves protectors whose minds are out of their teens in terms of their understanding of civilization's long struggle for liberty.

It certainly deserves protectors who do not consider it a "flawed" document because it does not permit the government it structures to run rough shod over the rights of its "only KEEPERS, the People" (Justice Story).

Blasting it "all to smithereens" seems to be the goal of the Far Left which currently seems to have controlled the Executive and Legislative branches of the government in 2009 and 2010.

Obama is the proverbial turtle on a post. However, his aides, appointees and enablers aren't. These people know how damaging their agenda is to our nation, and we know that their agenda is, in fact, to damage our nation. There's a word for such people. Would anyone care to guess what it is?

Well, I hate to say it, but I don't think Obama will ever be capable of growing up, and I have not seen a single sign that he is. He is stuck in self-love, and simply cannot hear anything from outside of himself that might contradict his knowledge that he is Perfect.

Certainly some of the people who voted for this idiot have been faced with reality and are starting to grow up. Not all of them, but some. But Obama? Never. And the media whores? They admit that their god is crumbling, but they are still rallying around to defend their ideology. All they will really admit is that Obama has done a bad job bringing in the promised Communist utopia. But they aren't about to stop trying to push it, come hell or high water.

I agree, totally. It is one thing to "expect" him to grow up, but quite another for him to do so, and he hasn't.

No they weren’t concerned even with the WARNING about this,

they were more concerned with a sharp as a tack potential Vice President learning the ropes between 2008-2012...and then running for President in 2012.

I was about to pick the same quote and reach the same conclusion.

I see no evidence that Obama is growing up or changing his ways or views. Worse, it seems that the inner circle in the WH is shrinking so that only the most abject sycophants remain, those who see their primary task as reminding the boy king of his brilliance even as the world shows him otherwise.

If he actually believes a cultist (Marxist idealogue) is “growing up”, he has a lot to learn about fundamentalist regressives.

vdh tries to take a paternal perspective with this article using the adolescent references; does he not realize obama's plan is working nicely: expand fedgov, minimize military, expand fedgov healthcare, cripple capitalism, etc.

what policies has obama changed to show his thought-process has "matured" presumably to a more conservative or even moderate platform?

Mr Hansen: I am not sure that Barry Hussein Obama will EVER grow up.

But you are correct about his total lack of experience & it reminds me of a ditty:

“I don’t get to blow the whistle..
I don’t get to ring the bell..
But, when the train jumps the tracks....
Guess who catches he//?”

Progressives would like nothing better for the whole system to come crashing down so they can "remake it" with different foundations. Reminiscent of the thinking of Pol Pot.

They think of our institutions as evil. Our insititutions do indeed reforming now and then. But they are built on Judeo-Christian foundations and there is no better way to build a foundation, contrary to what they think.
