The Obama administration is moving into high gear in putting gun-control advocates into important government positions. The administrations nominee to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), Andrew Traver, should be of particular concern. His attacks on the civilian use of so-called assault weapons raise real questions about his willingness to distort the truth for political purposes. The person nominated to be the nations top gun cop shouldnt use inaccurate descriptions to scare people into supporting gun control. . . .

It does not surprise me in the least that the latest ‘bung-hole’ recruited to head the BATFE thinks .223 is a ‘heavy’ caliber.

This govt. is so stupid. All they have to do is ban guns and the American people will acquiesce. The feds have the bigger guns, the propaganda, and others to enforce what they say.

Theyre so powerful, body armor cant withstand a hit, and theyre so difficult to control, their bullets often get sprayed beyond the intended targets, striking innocent victims even when theyre in their own homes.
What a load of crap-ola!

When talking to lawyers, I have taken to calling anything signed by a judge as an
Execution Order.
I point out to them that if lawyers are going around attempting to redefine military terms in the public eye, they can expect military people to redefine legalese.
What goes around, comes around.

I’m not so sure. NFA ‘34, GCA ‘68, AWB, the ban on full auto, Brady Act, all went down without too much trouble. Some congressmen lost their jobs, but the system survived.
Why do you think that this increment will be the line in the sand?
I think the plan will be to separate the Hunters from the Self Defense people, and pit both against the Insurrectionists. There are not enough insurrectionists (yet).

Speaking of M16s, M4s, and AK-47s, Traver is correct when he states that the guns covered by the federal assault-weapons ban were military-style weapons. But he fails to note that this really just deals with style the cosmetics of the guns, not how they actually operate. The guns covered by the ban were not the machine guns actually used by the military, but civilian, semi-automatic versions of those guns. The civilian version of the AK-47 may look like the guns used by militaries around the world, but it is different. It fires essentially the same bullets as deer-hunting rifles at the same rapidity (one bullet per pull of the trigger), and does the same damage. well they should be the military versions....if we are going to go by the Constitution, as determined by the Supreme court in the 1930’s that only military weapons should be covered under the 2nd amendment. A bad ruling, that works in our favor under certain circumstances.

"are you quoting someone....is that why it is in a box?? what is your point? in present day America....yeah the Blue states will bend over and take it....but the Red states will secede if they try this." I was not quoting someone. Why don't you communicate in standard English? Are you a contrarian, is that your point? What is with the double question marks, are you from a foreign land? And why the incorrect and overuse of ellipses? Got something against the proper use of capital letters? If not, why don't your sentences begin with them? Why are the words "Blue" and "Red" capitalized? My point is the red states won't secede nor will the blue.

I worked with Traver several years ago, and I remember when he was a wet behind the ears newly minted Special Agent. I’m surprised that he’ll be pulled out of the Chicago office, when Illinois is such an anti-gun state.

If you want to get into trouble at Free Republic, argue that given the natural law right to self defense, if you could afford it, it is acceptable for you to own a nuclear powered aircraft carrier battle group with air wing. That's how you find out how serious the posers are in their support for the constitution. Hint: it's not even about the 2nd Amendment. They just wanted to give special emphasis to this point. Under the Constitution the Feds cannot regulate firearms anyway. But they said in the 2nd that the States can't either and the Fed dam sure can't!
