Gov.-elect Rick Scott slams President Obama over drilling ban

Republican Florida governor-elect Rick Scott slammed President Obama’s ban on offshore drilling near the coast of Florida.

Mr. Scott issued a statement saying Wednesday’s decision is another example of the government regulation impeding economic growth.

Mr. Scott said drilling could be conducted safely if proper regulations were implemented. Offshore drilling does not currently occur near the coast of Florida.

The Obama administration announced a ban on offshore drilling, shelving plans to open offshore waters near Florida to oil and gas drilling.

Officials said the decision was due, in part, to the BP oil disaster earlier this year. The western coast of Florida was partially impacted by oil washing ashore. The ban will limit drilling to areas outside of 125 miles from the southeastern coast of the U.S.

The decision was applauded earlier by Florida governor Charlie Crist. Mr. Crist said the drilling ban would help to restore tourism to the state, which suffered during the spill. Mr. Crist left the Republican Party earlier this year during his campaign for U.S. Senate.

Mr. Scott will succeed Mr. Crist in January when the Florida governor departs office.

Obama is going to have one outsider Governor in Florida and two high profile governors considering higher office in Louisiana and Texas. He is going get a real whooping on this issue.

drilling could be conducted safely if proper regulations were implemented. ...

Safer drilling could have been conducted WITHOUT these "proper regulations" that pushed the drilling into the deep water in the middle of the Gulf instead of safe land-based drilling like in ANWR.

What beaches in Florida had oil from the spill anywhere near them? It should read “hysteria caused by the Obama administration hurt Florida tourism.”

While US firms that employ US workers and deliver their oil to US consumers are banned in these waters, the Chinese are drilling there and their record on the environment makes BP look like Boy Scouts. If the Chinese have a blowout and cover Florida beaches with oil does anyone think they will be spending billions to clean up the mess?

Have those two high profile governors considering higher office issued any statements?

Keep an eye on Rick. Maybe there’ll be three high profile governors considering higher office ...

Where’s Jindal? Crickets.

The states from Texas to Florida should form a union and tell Obama and that a-hole Salazar to get bent.

Same thing with CA, NM, AZ and TX re: immigration and border protection. Well, at least AZ and TX seem to be trying to protect their citizens.

PENSACOLA BEACH got a little.

I'm from a seaside community where some oil washing up on the beach was natural and normal.

Game playing like this is exactly how they shut down pipelines and energy production here in Michigan. The govt sets a high standard and the companies spend millions to meet that standard, only to be confronted with a new even higher standard.

There was a company that spent nearly a decade planning a coal fired electric plant in northern Michigan. They spent millions jumping through hoops only to have the state pull the permit last year on the grounds that it was unnecessary. The state then turned around and handed out a permit for a stinkin wind farm.

I am glad I voted for Rick also.

It is galling to listen to the self-serving twits in the tourist industry go on and on about how this is sooooo good for the tourism industry.

If they could look past their eco-freak noses they would realize that tourists MUST TRAVEL to get to the Gulf Coast destinations and other Florida locations.

ERGO - They can spend money on traveling with higher fuel prices or with lower fuel costs from drilling, they can spend it on food, accommodations, theme parks, motels, hotels, attractions, etc.

This is as idiotic as the claim that unemployment checks are stimulating the economy.

Perhaps the eco-freak Tourism industry should start advertising for unemployed folks to come enjoy Florida since they dispose of ALL their income and stimulate the economy.

Be careful what you wish for. Scott has a very shady past (i.e. $$$$$$$). The shady past of Obama did not work so well. I hope we aren't getting set up for another unwelcome surprise. At the very least all of Scott's big money decisions should be analyzed carefully with the knowledge of his past.

Obama needs to be arrested, tried for treason and jailed for the rest of his hopefully short miserable life.

So, you are worried about Scott’s past? How about Obama’s hidden past? How about the fact that his entire staff wopuld be as at home in a queer bath house such as the one Obama and Rhamie-Poo belonged to?

This from the article says is all, with a minor change: “Officials said the decision was due, in part, to the BP oil disaster earlier this year.”

The truth enhanced version: “Officials said the decision was due, in part, George Soros and the Saudi’s.”

And, don’t forget the Russians.

Pensacola, Destin & Santa Rosa.

However, that is no reason not to Drill Baby Drill. Drilling is the solution to our economic problems. If we took the oil money back, we could decapitate the Ragheads and stop the Jihad money from flowing back to our crooked politicians.

Don’t be played for a ping pong sucker! A crooked slime is a crooked slime. It doesn’t matter which side he/she is on. We got into this jam by being played for anger driven saps. Sit back, take a breath, look at the situation and use logical Constitutional interpretations. Both should be in the “clink,” so why develop allegiances to a slimy crook.

We got into this situation by not teaching our children the Constitution, abandoning the schools to commie educrats, and becoming a nation of GimmiePigs.

The only cure is shutting down all government activities that do not meet strict constitutional scruitney.

“A little socialist is like a little pregnant” - Reagan was right with that observation.

If you will remember, we were faced with the choice of Scott, who supports the Second Amendment to the point of support of the Open Carry Movement, and a Liberal Democrapic female gun grabber.

That was the choice that was. I chose correctly. Did you?
