The Southern Poverty Law Center is an organization with deep roots in the civil rights movement. Its ingenious lawsuits helped break the back of the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist factions, and in recent years, it has joined the Anti-Defamation League as a reliable monitor of hate groups.
The Family Research Council is an influential Washington-based advocacy group with deep roots in the religious right. Its annual political forum, the Values Voter Summit, has become a nearly obligatory stop for ambitious Republican office-seekers hoping to win the support of so-called values voters. In recent years, the council has given an increasing share of its attention to opposing marriage equality and open military service by gays and lesbians.
Now, the two groups are locked in a sharp confrontation that raises crucial questions about where the expression of religiously based views on social issues ends and hate speech begins.

Last week, the law center added the Family Research Council to its list of more than 930 active hate groups, citing the anti-gay rhetoric of its leaders and researchers, which have included calls to re-criminalize consensual sex between individuals of the same gender. The Southern Poverty Law Center defines a hate group as one with "beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics."
The council's president, former Louisiana lawmaker Tony Perkins, reacted angrily to the designation, calling it "slanderous" and demanding an apology. "The left is losing the debate over ideas and the direction of public policy, so all that is left for them is character assassination," ...

From the headline at first I thought it was about Colofornian’s Cult.
Oh, I get it...
so they just want to advance the homosexual agenda.
Understood.
Anyone that opposes promoting a sexually deviant, psychologically disordered and unhealthy lifestyle is a “hater”.
At first I thought this article was about islam which would make the headline absolutely true. Boy was I wrong! You are right. Barf.
More BS smothered in Wrong Sauce.
Google “Knights of Columbus Hate Group” and look for the usual suspects.
I believe the record will show the FBI with the help of informants who penetrated their inner councils and then some “ingenious” prosecution by the DOJ destroyed the hate groups mentioned.
The Southern Poverty Law Center is now little more then a hate group itself. It goes against anyone that stands in the way of the homoagenda, the communist agenda and anything that stands for America..
I don't see any reason to give them legitimacy by posting their hatred of all things 'not liberal' here...
The LA Times is smug in the elevation and promotion of the SPLC to the:
Department of the Politically Correct
Great! A fringe left wing organization gets to define and frame what "hate" is. From this point on the arguement will have to be within THEIR framework.
If the FRC called for the killing of homosexuals, the SPLC might have a leg to stand on.
It’s why the LA times adorns the bottom of so many birdcages.
While technically a non-profit in a corporate sense, it is extremely profitable for Mr. Dees.
He hires starry-eyed young lawyers with a yearning for "social justice", pays them next to nothing to work long hours in pursuit of all kinds of legal actions for which the SPLC gets paid substantial legal fees.
The SPLC also collects huge donations, even though it has $175 million in unspent funds.
They had no original purpose other than to create a political platform for Julian Bond.
The SPLC was founded in 1971 - after all the milestones of the Civil Rights movement were historical facts. They were basically a liberal think tank in the beginning.
They didn't file their first anti-Klan lawsuit until 1979 when Dees and Levin realized how much money there was to be made in tort law.
“The Southern Poverty Law Center is now little more then a hate group itself.”
The Southern Poverty Law Center is a great big hate group. It hates anyone or anything that’s not communist, fascist or a politically correct kind of racist. Furthermore, it has credibility only with fellow communists, fascists and racists. If the date was 1940, Morris Dees would be on a streetcorner singing love songs to Hitler.
Did I miss anything?
Do they mean, like, between Democrats and pigs?
I think that the guy that runs the SPLC, his grandfather or great-grandfather was a slave owner.
Back when Taco Bill Run for the Border Bill Clinton was
proving he was the Dems “unusually good liar” I took up interest in the “unorganized Militia” movement that seemed to
bother the President then. I bought a book with the name name of Morris Dees on the cover-expecting leftist fecal material and ended up tossing it in a trash can because the LIES and distortions about the Patriots who generally make up the
modern Militia movement —the LIES were too much to handle.
Morris Dees is one person-other than Obama That would necessarily have to come with full police escort-or an ambulance on call.I feel that strongly about the fecal headed LIAR.
He even forgot to put the Numba One HATE group on his list- SPLC. And I did not see the DNC— or the ACLU listed either—not to leave out P (on the) Flag.ANd please do not forget Planned Parenthood
