Throughout his campaign, Scott has downplayed his race, saying he has always lived in a world that was integrated.
The other black Republican elected to the U.S. House in November has said he will join the caucus. Allen West of Florida wants to steer the group away from what he called failing liberal policies.

Hope for the best for West but liberalism is truly a sickness that few recover. It takes a deep seated hatred that festers forever. No known cure to my knowledge.

I think the whole lot of CBC members are dirty. Which is why they shudder at the thought of a Republican joining their little club.

They need to be confronted. We need a conservative approach to the problems of the inner cities. Conservatism is for everyone and not just for the red states.

Good for Scott. I would prefer Allen West not join this group and, instead, push for the end of all race-based organizations within gov’t. One can hope.

Don’t get me wrong, I wish West luck, but the members of the black caucus have wallowed in power all these many years for completely anti-conservative reasons and getting them to change is about as likely as Jesse Jackson turning in his race card.

Class act! Imagine where we would be if we lived in a world where race was not an issue!
To: george76
Good for Tim Scott. He represents all of his constituents and refuses to join a racist organization based on skin color.

It's not that the CBC will change. Republicans need to change and try to reach out to minorities and make an effort to explain conservative ideas. That's what the late Jack Kemp tried to do.

Allen West doesn’t strike me as a dumb man or a bad strategist. Although, his decision gives pause to his reasoning.

I like his decision. I wish Scott would join too.
Think about it. They won't be able call press conferences all the time and stand in lock step anymore. The media won't be able to say the CBC feels this way or that way. They will now have to say Democratic members of the CBC. It just reminds people that not all black people feel the same way.

Know who he is before doubting his decisions.

Republicans need to change and try to reach out to minorities and make an effort to explain conservative ideas. My BS meter just pegged out.
How in the hell are you going to 'reach out' to 5th generation 'entitlement' recipients when the Rats have them chained to the plantation AND THEY LIKE THE PLANTATION!!!!
Listen up: We do not need to work with these people! We need to defeat them!!

Some lead, others follow and most sit on the sidelines. Cute.
Colonel West leads.
Are you kidding me? Maxine Waters? Charlie Rangel? Alcee Hastings? Shelia Jackson Lee? Jesse Jackson Jr?
Hell, most of these people are pure communist!
He won't lead this bunch unless he's willing to comprimise his conservatism. I'll bet a steak dinner and a case of your favorite beer on that.
