Wikileak question raised

Posted on 12/01/2010 12:47:21 PM PST by kronic

How were these documents leaked?

I just had a thought( yea I know its rare ) I worked for a government contractor 15 years. Even back then you could not download or copy files with out alerting security. So are we to believe you can just wander in to a secure area and copy thousands of pages of classified documents? I am not normally a conspiracy nut but this one I have to play the B.S. card on. There is no way in my experience this was achievable the way its been reported. I smell a rat. We might want to really not put much on the face of these documents. Its highly possible they are false and or some one wants to stir the pot so to speak. Any opinions, especially if you have ever worked for the government or been in military.

We don't know that Manning is being coddled. They may be removing his skin in 1 inch strips ~ at least I'd be doing that. Then the spit, the fire, the breaks for political campaign speeches.

Mohawk traditions teach us that there really are worse things than death!

a good work ethic was a Christian concept

Yes, ancient Rome, Greece, Egypt etc, etc, did not work nearly as hard as we Americans.
Jeebus, give your head a shake, dude.

I asked that question with the very first WIKILEAK event. Bottom line is that since going Galt I don’t really care any more.

It is a CF and the whole house of cards is going down anyway. My goal, honestly, is not to figure out HOW it happened (I think it is a bit of a butterfly effect thing) but to do my best to survive it all and help the rest of my family do the same.

Did the average person in Warsaw, in late August 1939 really need to know how what was about to happen happened, or were they better served by escaping before it happened?

I’m of the latter camp, in thought and deed.

Thanks. I retired when Clinton was in office, so I didn’t see the aftermath. I was wondering how a Private had access to sensitive state department communications without a need to know.

Any recording media that entered the classified work area had to stay there until it was destroyed or transferred to another classified storage facility.

Shielding the keyboards, monitors, and cables for H fields was very difficult. I used to set up a spectum analyzer and recorder and crawl the cables with probes. Without TEMPEST, I could record everything right off the cables. Government and private industry should both be using that shielded room wallpaper on the walls/ceiling/floor, then a shielded door to each office.

The answer to a future trivia question...

What do Pvt. Manning, Lady Gaga and DADT have in common?

http://abcnews.go.com/WN/wikileaks-case-pvt-bradley-manningss-alleged-role-leaking/story?id=11254454

From the article...

The young soldier wrote of how he downloaded the classified information.

“I would come in with music on a CD-RW labeled with something like ‘Lady Gaga’,” he told Lamo.

While pretending to sing along to Lady Gaga’s hit “Telephone,” Manning would actually be erasing the music from the CD and recording intelligence onto it instead.

Lose Lips Sink Ships. Freepers should refrain from publicly revealing what security access they have, or previously had. Come on people, take this stuff seriously. Stop explaining the the general public how the safeguards are suppose to work. Or what safeguards you personally used. Those are not something they 'need to know'.

Let’s just say yes, it is quite plausible that a PFC was able to get all of that off of a computer and out of a building. It was also quite probable that basic computer forensics would find out that he did it.

Photocopiers have also switched from analog mirrors to digital to analog conversion. So think of the process each time a page is copied. You could just buffer everything and then download it once a month or so. The average gubmint copier scans or produces hundreds of thousands of documents each year.

The average aircraft carrier has about 35 copiers on board. Submarines have about 5.

Do you think the Clintons were behind the leaks - trying to end the careers of folks they don't like?

He could have walked out with a disk in a music CD jewel case.

The allegation is that he concealed a RW-DVD in a music CD jewel case, copied files and walked out with them. How burning a DVD on a classified computer could be done without leaving an audit trail escapes me. Where I work classified desktop workstations do not have any capability to copy data directly to removable media. You need to go to a bullpen area where there is at least some chance of exposure. In addition, I believe that any copying of files from a classified system to removable media leaves an audit trail.

Sounds like they were plain lazy.

The point is that they dropped those safeguards in 1992. That’s why a desktop computer in compliance with TEMPEST and other DOD MIL-Specs rose in cost from $2,600 to $20,000 a copy. You don’t think all those stories of $600 toilet seats and hammers was really about toilet seats and hammers do you?

The same questions I have....the real story here is not Julian Assange...but, who gave Assange all those files?

And, I doubt it was some low-ranked US Army computer clerk.

I think the Liberal Free Trader Globalist crowd is upset with Assange because it kinda exposed them and their Liberal Globalist buddies around the world. I find it odd that people who describe themselves as “conservative” are upset that Assange released documents that mostly embarrassed the Democrats and the Democrat side of the Liberal Globalists.

Of course, if it was not for “leaks”...we would have never known the extent of all the fraud committed by the UN Climate Change nutjobs in England. That so exposed Global Warming as a fraud, even the Liberal Free Trader Globalists who support Cap And Trade could not even spin that one.

Since few are asking “who gave Assange those files” (which is the real treason here)....you wonder if the Liberal Free Trader Globalists in both parties are setting up something more sinister...and Assange is just their mouthpiece. I fear that this file dump is just a way for the Liberal Free Trader Globalists to try and shut down the Internet....of course that would mean Free Republic would be doomed.

Anyone with access to a system and a thumb drive can do tremendous damage.
Like this guy. He had SA privileges.

My question is why the Icelandic server wasn't taken out the first time this happened? Weeks ago. Trace: http://www.info.com/track%20ip%20address%20location?cb=27&cmp=4264 http://whatismyipaddress.com/ip-lookup

It used to be that it was prohibitted from disclosing deployments and ship movements. Now they make it part of CNN Headline News! I think the whole line of classified and not classified got destroyed when Clinton shifted top secret stuff to State. From that point, Pandora's Box just opened up.

My guess is that this can all be found out to go back to State. Those are the lifelong sellers of intelligence. Remember Sandy Berger and his socks? How can Berger go to CIA, Stael documents on camera, the president laugh about it, and then hold some private responsible for overwriting Lady Gaga?
