Editor's note: Ed Rollins, a senior political contributor for CNN, is senior presidential fellow at the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. He is a principal with the Dilenschneider Group, a global public relations firm. He was White House political director for President Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
(CNN) -- The first date is over. Not much happened. President Obama and his new governing partners, the House and Senate Republicans, met at the White House along with the Democratic leaders and discussed the unsolvable issues between them.
Even though they made no decisions and both sides went their separate ways, they agreed to start negotiations on extending the tax cuts. That in itself is the beginning of a positive process. They actually talked to each other and talked of a plan for action.
As with real dating, both sides have to get along or nothing will happen. So maybe this situation has more in common with an arranged marriage.
The American voters are the substitute parents, and they want this marriage to work or at least to be civil. And we, the voters, hold the shotgun.

Ed Rollins is a known RINO pimp.
His words, either written or spoken have no value, and are most probably harmful JMHO
the question is....how regional is this
her popularity may not be strong in California and New York. But I gurantee you she is giving Obama a run for his money in every swing state right now. atleast within single digits either way. and we have 2 years to go.
Ill vote for her too, if shes the most conservative one in the race. That will be highly doubtful.
***Why is that so highly doubtful? Right now she’s the most conservative with the most name recognition. Last time around we supported Duncan Hunter, who was often criticized for his lack of name recognition by FReepers saying, “Duncan Who?”... This time around, FReepers aint saying, “Sarah Who?”, so I’m with Sarah.
I used to say that the process itself generated name recognition. And it did — for Palin. The butthead press won’t be able to keep her out of debates the way they did with Hunter.
Actually? What were his accomplishments before he became governor - making movies?Yeah, he was an able negotiator for the union he belonged to, and impressed people. But does he actually have a signature accomplishment while governor? In only a couple of years, Palin did something.
I like Mike Pence and hope he runs for Pres, but he has a long long way to go to connect with the American people. And so far I haven't heard nearly enough from him about FREEDOM and I hear Palin talk about FREEDOM all the time. That is what attracts me. Policy discussion that doesn't have a fundamental basis in real, tangible freedom is always in the wrong direction. No one ever thinks or says - does this policy/law protect the freedom of the individual? Does this policy/law protect the liberty of the individual? Does this policy/law protect the rights of the individual? Can we justify enforcing this policy/law at the point of a gun?
I don't think that has ever happened before and I don't blame her for ending the bleeding to save the governorship and state from complete paralysis.
I hope you can comment at length about the publication of this article.
Your national polls are meaningless at this juncture, (2 years out) but a brilliant NortherEastern PDSer like you should know that, right or do you want some proof?
I note that you ignored the Rasmussen poll I posted which pitted Obama's views against Sarah Palin's.
A blast from the past to give you a tingle up you leg...leg.
The GOP establishment had decided they needed another candidate besides GHW Bush to stop Reagan and started recruiting Gerald Ford:
ABC News - Harris poll: FORD LEADS BOTH CARTER AND REAGAN, ALTHOUGH STILL UNDECLARED CANDIDATE
"Former President Gerald Ford is the first choice of Republican and independent voters to head the GOP ticket, even though he has not yet declared himself a candidate for the Republican nomination.
Ford also leads President Carter among the general electorate."

Who won the nomination and the general election later that same year, smart guy?
I get so infuriated with people like him. They are completely without foundation in reality, everything is just a soundbite to them, but they are regarded as oracles.
Still, I wonder if anybody actually listens to them? Rollins strikes me as a jealous old man who isn’t really sure about this new media stuff and is a little PO’ed because somebody like Palin probably wouldn’t even glance at him if he was making a pass at her at the neighborhood saloon. That’s about the level of his discourse. Spiteful, personal and shallow.
When Reagan was 46 (1957), he was still hosting General Electric Theater, and he was still a Democrat (though he had twice endorsed Eisenhower). He had never been elected to public office (1966), had not yet given his great speech for Goldwater (1964).
Reagan was a great man, but it took most of his life for his greatness to develop. Palin is well on her way to becoming great in her own right. Her ultimate achievements remain to be seen.
Of course the pissants of this world will continue to do everything they can to demean her and block her progress.
Terrific, then you shouldn't have any problems posting these "polls" so we may all bask in her success, right?
Well, Hunter won in a predominantly Dem district in 1980. He got zero support from the GOP. He sold his house to run and beat long time powerful incumbent Lionel Van Deerlin. It wasn’t until redistricting in the 1990s that it became a ‘safe seat’ for the GOP.
As for the charisma of a rutebega, I guess having a deep command of the issues, a stinging wit, concise and quick answers that make sense, and a baritone voice is chopped liver next to a screechy, high pitched voice who butchers the english language and can’t handle Charlie Gibson and can’t beat Slow Joe Biden in a debate.
“Rollins = long time insider = zero credibility.”
What about Dick Cheney?
Except for a brief stint at private industry, after holding Sec. Of Defense, Cheney was in government ever since his college days.
not a n00b...lose that argument.
I’ve been here since the late ‘90’s under the name teledude, mostly lurkinig.
I was banned, believe it or not, for expressing my disgust at the McCain nomination in a poor way, and spent a couple years just lurking before re-registering under a shortened moniker.
Not that any of that addresses the issue of your believing the left wing lies about Palin.
truth-my-a$$-keeper
“And she thinks McCains a great guy. I dont.”
He is a great guy. But he is a lousy Republican.
Go do your own scut work.
Better yet, just try to read more of FR than just the anti-Palin threads !
I’ll guarantee you a conservative will enter the race if all we have are the names bandied about who are ‘considering’ a run.
I’m hoping it is DeMint. But if not, I’ll take a Pence, Rounds, Bolton, Cain or somesuch.
Palin has laid too many RINO eggs.
I say...KILL ALL THE MESSENGERS!!! Bastards!
Yeah, that's a complicated one. /s
She's divisive. Divisiveness sells papers and drives viewers and visitors to websites and cable. She's train-wreck television to a great portion of the country.
Tiger Woods, Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton are all in the news. It doesn't mean any of them can be President.
I'll also note that your personal animus in this regard is really quite remarkable. Anyone who disagrees with you must be a "smart guy" or some such thing. Again, that's funny, but not in the good way.
Now then, which left wing lies about Palin do I believe? I'm a little slow, so please direct me to the specific post.
