The Defense Department released its findings today on the impact of the possible repeal of the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) policy. To no one's surprise, there was a "leak" and public opinion about what this report actually contains is already being manipulated! We must support our troops and stop this agenda-driven form of social engineering. See my urgent message below - Mat.
The fate of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy is likely riding within the pages of a Defense Department Report released today to Congress. The Senate Armed Services committee will take up their findings on the report Thursday.
The problem we reported early this summer is that the fact-finding process itself was BIASED toward the repeal of DADT. Further, even the Executive Order that then-President Bill Clinton cobbled together that became known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was never approved by Congress in the first place!
For now, we MUST keep Harry Reid from passing the repeal of the DADT policy by attaching it to the essential Defense Authorization Bill. Then, in the 112th Congress that will be seated in January, Congress can give this crucial matter the proper time and attention it deserves.
Just WHY are we giving such a vital issue the "Reid Rush" through the Senate? The original 1993 law that prohibited homosexuals from serving in our armed forces was passed after TWELVE legislative hearings and field trips, not a single "survey" of attitudes and opinions! Surely our military deserves the same consideration today!
The Defense Department Report is seriously flawed.
Senator John McCain, the ranking member of the Armed Services Committee, raised red flags by exposing the report's flawed logic.
The report does not ask the troops IF the policy should be repealed, it asks the troops (and their wives) HOW to implement the pro-homosexual policy, assuming the DADT policy has already been repealed.
This is nothing less than an agenda-driven report initiated by a highly politicized White House and its administration!
Tragically, the ultraliberal 111th Congress and homosexual activists have intensified the pressure to ram through the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) during this lame duck session of Congress.
The Obama/Reid/Pelosi machine is utilizing a favorite tactic from their ObamaCare playbook: Pass unwanted legislation without anyone fully realizing its potential negative consequences and then get out of town!
This MUST be stopped in the Senate NOW! Then, proper attention can be paid to the 1993 law that prohibited homosexuals from serving in the military and former President Clinton's Executive Order that gave us today's DADT policy.
*Nancy Pelosi's House of Representatives passed the legislation by attaching the DADT repeal amendment to the Defense Appropriations Bill, a bill that is critical to the ongoing funding of our military. We've seen this cynical strategy before!
*Also attached as a "rider" is a provision to turn military hospitals and other medical facilities into abortion clinics, an underhanded way of further funding abortion with tax-payer money.
*Repealing DADT was an Obama campaign promise to the homosexual community.
*The Senate Armed Services Committee's decision to open debate on December 2nd has triggered the countdown to the all-important Senate vote!
The Obama administration is ignoring those who know best!
The new Commandant of the Marine Corps, General James Amos, recently said that he was concerned about a loss of unit cohesion and combat readiness if the DADT policy is overturned.
The General said that with U.S. troops - including 20,000 Marines - locked in a tough fight in Afghanistan, now is NOT the time to lift the DADT ban on open homosexuality in the military. "This is not a social thing. This is combat effectiveness," the Commandant emphasized.
Sen. McCain said this on a news broadcast: "I'm paying attention to the Commandant of the Marine Corps. I'm paying attention to the other three service chiefs who have serious concerns. They are the four guys who are directly in charge." McCain also said...
"In all due respect, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is not directly in charge of the troops. The Secretary of Defense is a political appointee who's never been in the military. And the president, obviously, has had no background or experience in the military whatsoever. It was a campaign pledge to the gay and lesbian community."
And perhaps worst of all, all of the pro-homosexual legislators are completely disregarding a letter written by 1,167 Flag and General officers expressing great concern about repealing DADT which said...
"We believe that imposing this burden on our men and women in uniform would undermine recruiting, retention, impact leadership at all levels, have adverse affects on the willingness of parents who loan their sons and daughters to military service, and eventually break the All-Voluntary force."
You can go to http://www.libertyaction.org but I don't know if the email itself is there. Probably much of the corresponding information can be found there.
The conclusion was determined long ago by the Obama administration.
The “report” was just a formality.
i dont know who they polled, but all this seems shady.
Im active Army and in a combat arms MOS. Supposedly, we combart arms soldiers will require sensitivity training now.
As I pointed out in a different posts. Im disturbed at the way they are spinning the stats of this report. ONLY 15-20% actually said repealing DADT was a positive thing, so in reality only 15-20% were for it. A solid 30% see a repeal a negative, so in reality that 30% are against it. The big mushy middle of 50-55% were ambivalent. So, when they say 70% are for the repeal of DADT it is a mistatement of truth.
The big media is claiming that the survey proves that the military is gloriously content with the idea of repealing DADT.
But if thirty percent of the military is against repeal, is that not evidence of a major cohesion problem? Thirty percent is a lot of people. A mere two percent of the military could cause a cohesion problem.
“But if thirty percent of the military is against repeal, is that not evidence of a major cohesion problem? Thirty percent is a lot of people. A mere two percent of the military could cause a cohesion problem.”
Correct! Especially if they are strongly against having open homosexuals serving.
Also, I don’t buy that 50-55% are in the middle. It is just the way the questions were asked. When I got my copy and started filling it out, I became so disgusted with the biased way the questions were asked that didn’t allow you to express true disdain, I almost didn’t finish it.
I suspect that of the several hundred thousand that didn’t return surveys, a large number of them got so disgusted they just tossed it thinking, “they really don’t want an honest answer.” It was SO obvious that the outcome was already predetermined. Like I have said elsewhere, the general officers that let this bogus survey be pushed on the troops should resign in shame for going along with this nonsense so willingly.
Secretary Gates and Admiral Mullin have, in my opinion, disgraced the arms of America with this ridiculous campaign and bogus survey. If it were in my power, I would lobby the Senate to NOT grant Admiral Mullin 4 star rank upon retirement. Revert him to his permanent grade of Rear Admiral (upper half) to reward his cowardice and poor judgement. When in general officer above the two star level retires, the Senate must confirm there retirement grade. They can reduce them to their permanent two-star grade. If the Senate did this to Admiral Mullin it would send a shock wave through the ranks of senior officers that kissing liberal presidential backside is not something that will be rewarded. IF your “principles” dictate your agreement, then you can have your principles and a lower retirement paycheck!
I keep seeing comments saying the questions were biased. I am going to reserve judgement until I see the questions.
“I keep seeing comments saying the questions were biased. I am going to reserve judgement until I see the questions.”
I am a reservist that was picked, with my wife, to take the survey. I have used the term “biased” for lack of a better word. The questions were written such that it was not possible to clearly articulate strong objections to repealing DADT. Also, the questions asked were such you couldn’t do so. For instance, they would ask questions like “How would having open homosexuals affect your participation in unit social activities?” “Would you be more likely to attend, less likely, or no change?” Most soldiers I know, reserve or active, don’t really go to unit social functions to begin with, so it doesn’t change anything.....do you see the pattern here. So, if you answered honestly, it would make no difference....because social functions don’t really matter to soldiers.
Never did they come right out and ask you directly if you thought having open homosexuals would hurt discipline, moral, or unit cohesion. The used oblique questions that were tedious to follow. It was frustrating to take this survey because it was so obvious that they didn’t want to provide a clear cut way for the troops to express direct disdain.
They asked if you had ever known of a homosexual in your unit and if they hurt the unit’s discipline, etc. Problem with this is even if you know that someone is a homosexual, they will be isolated cases and you haven’t ever seen them openly being a homosexual with all that implies. So, pray tell me how you can honestly answer that? Ok, so I know of a homosexual, but since he/she can’t be open about it, of course they are going to be low key and not cause problems. It is only those service members unfortunate enough to have been sexually harassed by a homosexual...I know of such cases. However, it is isolated because they must keep low key.
The military already has a VERY BIG problem with heterosexual misconduct (sexual harrassment, rape, affairs that wreck marriages, etc.). If you check the records of military installations where new trainees start out, you will find drill sergeants court martialed at an alarming rate for taking advantage of or being taken advantage of by a recruit. It is in both genders to. We don’t need the added problem of increased sexual misconduct by having open homosexuals thrown in that mix. The current law keeps them in check.
Contrary to what the press leads persons to believe, DADT DOES NOT allow a military person to legally engage in homosexual activity...even if they try to keep it private. A homosexual can serve, but they essentially are taking a “chastity” vow. Your “orientation” is not important, but your conduct is. Engage in homosexual conduct and you have broken your agreement with the military and you are then rightfully shown the door. So, DADT doesn’t stop someone with homosexual tendencies from “serving”, but it doesn’t allow them to engage in homosexual conduct.
Persons that cannot behave themselves in their sexual conduct, hetero or homo, don’t have the proper discipline to serve in the military. It is hard enough to keep the heterosexual misconduct suppressed, we don’t need the additional burden of open homosexuals which will definitely behave in a manner that will bring dishoner on the military and shake the trust and confidence of the public and fellow military members.
I've seen some FR posts indicating that the survey contained an identification number which would allow the powers-that-be to know who filled out which particular survey form. Was that the case for you?
That's a seriously screwed up way to run a survey if you want to get honest opinions. On the other hand, it's a great way to get the responses you want to get.
That's the "democracy" of the survey in numbers.
I am nevertheless appalled and grieved, and vexed that even 15 to 20 percent of our people in uniform see sodomites openly serving in the Armed Forces to be a positive thing.
And then . . . 50 to 55 percent AMBIVALENT ????
15 to 20 percent have a moral compass that points due south, and 50 to 55 percent have a compass that doesn't have a needle at all.
That already sounds like a military that might turn on civilians when used by a little dictator "to maintain social order."
You’re right — Admiral Mullen and Secretary Gates are a total disgrace. Their arrogant attitude of forcing open gays on the military could destroy the Marines. Who could seriously talk about “the few, the proud” anymore?
Second question. Why do people keep talking about what a great secretary of defense Gates is?
