Should Hillary Clinton resign as secretary of state due to the WikiLeaks revelations? My friend Jack Shafer at Slate makes a good case. His reason: Clinton, like predecessor Condoleezza Rice, signed orders instructing U.S. foreign service officers to spy on the diplomats of other nations. Cables went out under her name telling State Department officials overseas to collect the fingerprints, facial images, DNA, and iris scans of African leaders, to obtain passwords, credit card numbers, and frequent flyer accounts used by foreign diplomats, and to gather private information on United Nations officials, including Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

The fact of the matter is we would be negligent if the State Department WASN'T doing what these cables clearly show them doing. To hell with "international law". The first responsibility of this administration, or any administration, is to relentlessly defend the interests of the US. If that means we have to "spy" on foreign diplomats, terrific. The pretense of Korn and other liberals that other countries aren't doing the same exact thing, is ridiculously stupid and dangerously naive.
Yes, David Kornhole is an idiot.
Well, if Hugo Chavez insists ...
For real. During Glasnost electronic surveillance emanating from the Soviet Embassy in Washington actually increased.
C'mon! Iris scans of diplomats? That's about as silly as it gets and a gigantic waste of tax money. Given Hillary's history, aren't you in the least skeptical of her reasons for spending taxpayers money in this way? Hillary should resign.

Well, there goes that 2012 presidential run.
Precisely why the OweBama regime allowed/facillitated the release of the wiki info.

In the Democrat primaries for 2012, Obama’s only real threat is Hillary Clinton. If Obama’s backers can get her to resign in disgrace, then he is more likely to be unopposed and relatively unbloodied by the time the Republicans straighten themselves out for the general election.
you can say that again
you can say that again
you can say that again
The state department is corrupt - reporting AZ to the UN and speaking publicly in China about AZ human rights concerns.
Hate to say it - but I agree with the libs -
IMHO this whole wikileaks mess is very damaging to US interests - now, and in the future.
Hillary is right in the middle of this and needs to resign. Along with Eric Holder for doing nothing to try and stop it.
David Korn is helping Obama take Hillary our so she cannot challenge him in the primaries. She is politically dead. The left has now turned on their former darling. That’s the way it is with commies. Trotsky taken out by Lenin. Same thing, different names.
” If Obamas backers can get her to resign in disgrace, then he is more likely to be unopposed and relatively unbloodied by the time the Republicans straighten themselves out for the general election.”
Fair point, but I have been harboring a theory lately that Obama is better served buy a serious primary challenge than not having one in 2012. A primary challenge airs the dirty laundry earlier, makes him look like a fighter and brings out the best in him as a campaigner. It also gains him a lot of sympathy with his base because the challenger would be painted as a right wing nazi like Hillary was in the leftosphere during the 2008 campaign. Just a theory. It would be a lot of fun to watch though.
I think they see that Obama could have a fight in 2012 against Hillary, so they trying now to discredit her and get her out of the picture.
I can think of plenty of reasons why Hilary should resign, but this isn't one of them. As I said, we would be idiots if we didn't instruct our foreign service officers to do these things as other countries surely are.
I think there can be intelligent debate with respect to how these cables were compromised, and who needs to take responsibility for that - maybe that is Hilary, or Gates or someone else. But, I just can't agree with Korn and his friends. I'm glad Rice and Clinton (and I'm sure every other SOS) have done these things, and I hope we continue to do them.
Obviously Korn is working for Obama here, or thinks he is helping him.
I don’t know, but I would guess that Hillary in her role as Secretary of State was given a pile of routine documents to sign, continuing the policies of her predecessors. Among them was presumably a document saying that diplomats are authorized to get any kind of information they can about foreign politicians.
Presumably this is to protect them for doing their jobs, which is to collect any potentially useful information they can about friends and enemies alike. Most of that information would not be used, but would be filed away in case it might prove useful down the line.
But while not absolutely saying so, the story is written as if Hillary originated the idea and pushed it deliberately. Unlikely, I would say. But calculated to embarrass her with the leaders of other countries and to offend her leftist base.
I think the brutal and long primary served Obama well in 2008. But, history tells us that incumbent Presidents standing for reelection who have serious primary challengers, don't fair well in the general election.
If Obama were to be seriously challenged, it would be from a candidate that appeals to the far left, not the moderate middle. Obama would have to tack even further to the left during the primary, increasing his exposure to attacks from the middle and right in the general. That's not good for a man who, if he has any chances of reelection, has to win back the moderates he's alienated. A primary challenge hurts him.
Having said all that, if he's still enjoying 95%+ approval ratings with blacks, he can't be dethroned - not by Hilary, not by anyone. Blacks are just too important a demographic in Democrat politics.
