Cash-strapped cities and towns across America are having to pay out millions of dollars on new signs under orders of the federal government - because they are the wrong letter size. Washington officials have demanded that every single street sign in the nation which is currently in capitals must be replaced because they are supposedly too hard to read. In their place will be new signs with the same green background and the same font, the only difference being that they are in lower-case letters. For some cities the cost will be millions of dollars at a time when budgets are being cut and salaries frozen.

Are you f**king kidding me? We are trillions in debt, unemployment is double digits, and THIS is the shit they’re worried about?
Idiots... about as worse an abuse of us taxpayers as the bipartisan looting of us to benefit Washington’s criminal class.
what happens to the locale that says,”No.”? This is out of control.
So whose nephew owns the sign company?
Woody Allen made a movie many years ago — “Bananas”, I think — in which he briefly portrayed a Latin American Revolutionary Dictator who seizes power in some little country and declares as his first official act that the national language will now be ... Swedish.
If you can't read it, you can't see it or you can't comprehend it, you shouldn't be driving!
yep - follow the money, someone/some company has to be getting a reward for their “loyalty” & “support”.
Right...too hard to read. You mean forced to do this to pay off political buddies. Got Fed?
¿Que?
Federal Highway Administrator Victor Mendez said: If you can’t read it, you can’t see it or you can’t comprehend it, it could be a distraction to you. You could be in an accident, negative consequences could occur.
So we had better round up and deport the 12 million ILLEGAL ALIENS that mighht have trouble reading or comprehending these signs also!
I know that in Ocoee FL, which is a little town outside of Orlando, they have street signs with all capital letters and you almost can’t read them unless you get out of your car and walk right up to them. And that is in broad daylight.
But the problem isn’t that the signs are in capital letters. The problem is that the idiot city planners included the flowery/Tree logo of the city on the sign, which TAKES UP ALMOST HALF THE DAMN SIGN!!
If this is serious ... big IF ... then this is proof positive that we are living under a tyranny and not a constitutional republic any longer.
I’m just about certain that Congress didn’t pass any law requiring this action. This was the work of some bureaucrat who gets to draw up regulations without supervision and we get to suffer for it.
What was the wording used in the Declaration? Oh yeah:
“He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our People, and eat out their substance.”
This is tyranny, kiddies. We’re not in Kansas anymore.
A lot of times I cannot see a sign because it is drowned out by other stuff like flower pots hanging from a street lamps. Some towns place them too low. This is my problem and I deal with it by making sure I know where I'm driving.
On that note, why do the signs need to be changed? are people really paying attention to them? I thought all had their eyes on their GPS.
I think they should forget about making new signs with lower case lettering. Every street sign should be in neon lights.

What’s this obsession with lower case? I guess Mendez and his merry band of bureaucrats have no better things to do during the holiday season than to re-design every street sign in America!
I think Obama must have some sort of fetish about street signs. Remember all the fuss and expense over the signs giving him credit for the shovel ready highway repairs?
Don’t be surprised if he suddenly gives the order to rename every street in America Obama St., Obama Ave., or Obama Dr.
And these names would be followed to numbers, to prevent confusion.
Thus: “Proceed down Obama Ave. V to Obama Street 23, turn left at the stop light, and then turn right onto Obama Dr. 67.”
I heard last night this is only a recommendation rather than a requirement.
