I mentioned last week that a new Big Foodie bill opposed by a diverse coalition of limited government activists, small family farmers, and left-leaning “locovores” was coming down the pike.
Today, I’m disappointed to tell you, the regulatory expansion bill masquerading as a “safety” measure passed by a large margin — with stomach-turning Republican support.
The 15 power-grabby Republicans who voted for it:
Alexander (R-TN)
Brown (R-MA)
Burr (R-NC)
Collins (R-ME)
Enzi (R-WY)
Grassley (R-IA)
Gregg (R-NH)
Johanns (R-NE)
Kirk (R-IL)
LeMieux (R-FL)
Lugar (R-IN)
Murkowski (R-AK)
Snowe (R-ME)
Vitter (R-LA)
Voinovich (R-OH)
The Senate bill must be reconciled with a version that passed the House of Representatives in 2009 before Congress adjourns for the year.
” AND CALL YOUR HOUSE REPS TODAY REGARDING THE RECONCILIATION “
I read, somewhere, and only once, that the Dem House Leadership can circumvent the reconciliation process by bringing S510, exactly as passed in the Senate, to the floor of the House for a pro-forma up-or-down vote...
This could be on the Prez’s desk by the end of the week...
Well..we have our list now of who to vote out in 2012!
RINOS...we are coming!
Thanks for the ping! They will hear from me!
No. That was a different situation altogether. Not a part of the CPSC regs.
This ostensibly is about childrens’ clothing and fire resistance standards and lead content (bizarre but true). Really, it is about control.
I have had to deal with some CPSC fallout re: kids’ dirt bikes.
Thank God.
Wisely put, Uncle.

There is the problem. 4-5 people posted out of 300+ million. It’s mind boggling that when Brandy got kicked off Dancing With the Stars the facebook board moved so fast you could hardly read it, yet this get a handful of comments. THIS is why I have no hope for our country. The people are too dumbed down. Dancing with the Stars is more important to most Americans. I guarantee you more than 75% AT LEAST, don’t have a clue this passed, 98% didn’t read it and 99% won’t say a word about it.
Exactly right.
It still has to be reconciled with the House bill.
I heard that was taken out of the bill.
Very doubtful this will happen and the 15 Repub Senators know it.
Crist's RINO butt-boy strikes again.
This law doesn’t impact my family at all. We will still plant and harvest many vegetables, and give the excess to our church.
I do like that the FDA will finally be able to make tests of vitamins and other “health supplements”. The promoters have had no regulation at all. As Consumer Reports has found, what is on the label is often nowhere near what is in the bottle.
As we depend on gov’t to assure that our meat, poultry, fish are safe to eat, and our medicines are safe, it is reasonable to have an independent review of safety in “dietary supplements”.
Keeping a watch on the predatory charlatans is important.
Hells Bells...some of them even co sponsored it ...and I just voted for that shyster Burr a few weeks ago
S. 510 To amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act with respect to the safety of the food supply. IN THE SENATE OF THE UNITED STATES MARCH 3, 2009 Mr. DURBIN (for himself, Mr. GREGG, Mr. KENNEDY, Mr. BURR, Mr. DODD, Mr. ALEXANDER, and Mr. ISAKSON) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions A BILL
Kick them out AND go after the retirements these a$$haTS supposedly earned protecting and defending the constitution!
There is a way to get thier attention after all.
Especially the ones who have been there for decades!
Deem and pass, that is what they did with Obamacare.
Everyone is focused on the stupid Wikileaks. This is how they cram this foul legislation through.
F.S. 100.161 Filling vacancy of United States Senators. Should a vacancy happen in the representation of this state in the Senate of the United States, the Governor shall issue a writ of election to fill such vacancy at the next general election; and the Governor may make a temporary appointment until the vacancy is filled by election. [emphasis added]The vacancy was filled by election on Nov. 2nd and surely has been certified by now. Why has not Marco Rubio taken his rightful seat (and gotten a jump on seniority BTW)???
Voinovich (OH) is gone in January, replaced by Portman, a great improvement.
Apparently the bill was altered beyond what they intended.
That and lots of people like me sending them “oppose S.510!” emails.
I called for a primary challenge to Vitter. One happened, but it didn’t go anywhere.
Look what Richard Lugar did this time...
