Some of the diplomatic papers stolen from the State Department and leaked Sunday by Wikileaks show more than just potentially embarrassing revelations about U.S. views of allies but disturbing developments among alleged friends as well as foes and competitive states.
The details from the cables being released -- among 250,000 illegally taken from secret State Department records -- include discussions on the U.S. being unable to stop Syrian arms to Hezbollah, its disappointment in Qatar to stop funding terrorism and hacking by the Chinese government of U.S. computers
Samples of some of the thousands of documents that were to be released by Wikileaks Sunday night began leaking out midday after the German newspaper Der Spiegel and The New York Times released excerpts earlier than planned.

The bottom line I hope is that the damage will prove to be ephemeral and that no long term effect will change the basic reality that the US remains the only global super power for the forseeable future.I hope is that no one will really be shocked by what is revealed in terms of what they have to know is the way the world works behind closed doors.
Okay, so call me an optimist. The greatest damage by the leaks as reported by the Slimes in the long article linked below will be in the Arab World while still saying nothing is going to change much in that what has been revealed merely confirms the suspicions they've harbored about the US all along.

There is a small(?) up-side. Our government’s inadequacies and bonehead plays are out there for all to see.

The leakers, the publishers or our government “overlords”?

The leaked info is a true testimony of the superior intellects, and the above board actions of the ruling class. The American poeple should be very proud! /sar

Muslims(Iran, maybe)? Chicoms? I haven’t seen much in what has been leaked so far to make either regime look bad.
Or is this Assange a__hole just one sick SOB?

The bottom line I hope is that the damage will prove to be ephemeral and that no long term effect will change the basic reality that the US remains the only global super power for the forseeable future. as America continues with its slow conversion to a 'soft tyranny' that other countries, such as China, takes her place as the new superpower -- both economically and in terms of freedom.Corrected for grammar and spelling.

Am I the only one that likes that this happened? What egg on Obamas face.He will claim he didn't condone most of it and Hillary will get blamed. He may have to reluctantly ask her to resign in disgrace.

Obama. Seriously who does Obama consider his main rival. Republicans, he's a narcissist and doesn't care about them or consider them a threat. His main threat is Hillery. And these leaks make the State department look like a bunch of bumbling fools. Hillery will be sacked for cause. Ending her political career.

I don’t like the idea that this might place lives at risk, but I think at least the American people should know what our government is up to. When people complain about how our liberties are being stripped, and our government is selling us out to a world government, I guess this is what our government was receiving in return.
