New York Times - A Note to Readers: The Decision to Publish Diplomatic Documents
NYTimes ^ | 11/28/2010

Posted on 11/28/2010 3:27:49 PM PST by markomalley

The articles published today and in coming days are based on thousands of United States embassy cables, the daily reports from the field intended for the eyes of senior policy makers in Washington. The New York Times and a number of publications in Europe were given access to the material several weeks ago and agreed to begin publication of articles based on the cables Sunday online. The Times believes that the documents serve an important public interest, illuminating the goals, successes, compromises and frustrations of American diplomacy in a way that other accounts cannot match.

What’s the logic/rationale behind that?

Nothing. Anything the Democrates determine is seldom logical or rational. Money and power/bribes corrupt..she has both...and the dirt on everyone who might oppose her.

Absolutely. Good post.

And if anyone at the Times is complicit in the publication of this information, they need to go to prison along with the leakers. For a long time.

We can’t start squashing freedoms. That would be Un-American.

As much as we would like to.

I’m withholding judgment for the time being: I want to see how our administration views Israel and the Jews.

I want to see how they view “friends” such as Saudi Arabia.

I also want to see the treatment of longtime allies such as Great Britain.

Just saying.

From the Polish point of view we only learned how much George W.Bush's administration was a true-blue and sincere ally of Poland. On the other hand, we found out how treacherous Obama’s administration is, which canceled Pres. Bush's project of locating antimissile shield in Poland and Czech Rep. Would you believe that? He sold us to Russia only to gain Kremlin's temporary support for this or that!!!

It's no mystery the language of diplomats is often full of empty words and promises said only to flatter. Meanwhile, this leakage only proves real respect and honor that Republican administration had to the Polish people as an US allies. Such words of ambassadors, written not in public but behind closed doors where no cams and journalists can observe this, are simply PRICELESS.

Anyway, despite obvious horrible damage this caused to America in the whole world, I (a Pole) had an opportunity to realize again who is who in America for real.

Make no mistake and be sure I'm telling the truth straight from my heart;

YOU, U.S. REPUBLICANS, ARE THE BEST AND MOST HONORABLE ALLIES POLAND HAS EVER HAD! I AM REALLY PROUD OF SUCH ALLIANCE! I DARE SAY YOU MAY ALWAYS RELY AND COUNT ON US, IF ONLY NEED BE! MAY GOD BLESS YOU FOREVER!

And last but not least, I hope, millions of Americans of Polish ancestry in Illinois will never vote for that democratic traitors, kowtowing servants of the Kremlin!

The “Old Gray Lady” needs to be committed to a locked ward for dementia patients.

I don’t care if these leaked documents are bad for Obama or Hillary - CLASSIFIED documents are classified for a REASON! “Public Interest” stories? Yeah, well it IS interesting, but it’s also INSANELY STUPID to print them in an international paper!

I'm sure "the public interest" is the only reason the NYT is printing these accounts. It surely has nothing to do with hoping they will sell more copies...

Wonder if Holder will prosecute the NYT (and WIKILEAKS) for being in possession of stolen property?

If it’s on the net, it’s out there.

Whether the NYT, WaPo, or DU publishes it doesn’t seem very consequential to me.

Obviously we need to hang the gay Army leaker for treason.
And the major domos who let this happen need to be answering a lot of questions.

From what I’ve been able to read, the two powers which have the least criticism directed their way are the Iranians and the Chicoms.

That makes me wonder if possibly one or both of them are behind the leaks.

Some on this site think Obama is behind it but some of the leaks are unflattering to him plus it escapes me how it would be politically beneficial to him to compromise undercover work in Yemen and Pakistan. I suppose if cover being blown results in loss of American life, he could blame Hillary. Other than that I see nothing but trouble for him especially since 40% of the country regards him as a traitor to begin with.

NYC rumor has it that for gays, the NY Times has an open-door policy already.

I’m highly suspicious that Manning being militantly against DADT had an impact on the paper’s decision to publish.

Have you read anything in the published leaks critical of Iran or China?

I haven’t. But just about everybody else was made to look bad.

Interesting that it would be the Iranians and Chicoms.

I agree that it’s a little diffficult to see how this could benefit Obama (here in the US, at any rate). It just confirms what most people, including the Europeans, already think about him. However, if he is behind it, it could mean that he simply doesn’t care what people think about him and that he is willing to do anything to compromise and weaken the US and he doesn’t care who knows it.

And since the Iranians and the Chicoms are the two groups whose approval he seeks more than any other, perhaps this is his little offering to them. On the other hand, maybe my tinfoil is on too tight and he really is just a bumbling idiot and none of this means much of anything in connection with him.

Thank you but we also need to clean up the Republicans, though you are right, they are your best allies vs. Democrats. It is the Conservative that is the best friend of Polands. Conservative, God fearing Americans who believe in small government. We hope to get rid of the weak pretend Republicans and elect more conservative ones to take back our country from the liberal democrats.
