Here we are at the beginning of the Holiday “season.” All parents know that these breaks bring with them pleas from children for some extra time in front of what my priest refers to as “the magic lantern” and my husband calls “the devil box.” There is truth in each of these labels, but most Moms call it ”an hour and a half of peace and quiet to get a few things done.”

Yes, I am speaking of the television. While it can be argued that watching TV is an inferior way to spend time, it does play a role in the lives of most — OK, pretty much all — families. I would argue that not all TV viewing is the same. Movies, because of the absence of commercials, are far superior to anything that you can find channel surfing. Commercial free-PBS is not much better. While it does not show many product commercials, it is often worse than network or cable television due to the obnoxious amount of politically correct messages and indoctrination into the leftist agenda by puppets and cartoon characters. Movies, if they are any good, have the ability to hold a child’s uninterrupted attention and convey a message in tact.

So, what children watch does make a difference. For example, does anyone want their daughters learning teen morality from Hannah Montana or her evil twin Miley Cyrus? Since we will sit our kids in front of the TV at some point, I have compiled a list of the top ten kid’s movies with hidden conservative messages.

Always objected to one message in “The Incredibles:” “Work hard, develop amazing gadgets, and you’ll still never be the equal to people born with natural talent.” Or something like that...

Master and Commander is an awesome movie... but how is it considered a kids’ movie?

I agree that The Sound of Music belongs on the list as well. Another great film is Second Hand Lions. My wife and I took in a family of six kids a couple of years ago for part of the summer. That film made a very good impression on the one of the boys who was a bigger problem than the other five put together.

Master and Commander is one of my all time favorite movies. The lesson of using your optimum resources against the worst odds, is a grand lesson for all.

Another way in which Lion King can be considered conservative is in its circle of life theme, which discusses how everyone and everything has a role to play in the economy. It’s the leader’s job to let it all play out. Very laissez faire. Hayek would’ve approved. Of course, the bad guy screws this all up when he takes over.

I know some hate it, but the Harry Potter movies are loaded with conservatism.

I thought the same thing. Hogwarts celebrates Christmas and the government bureaucrats are either screwing things up or aligned with evil.

I’d like to see the top 10 kids movies with *overt* conservative messages, along with a healthy dose of skits, plays, and comedy shows to poke fun at PC nannies, liberals, the media, and big government types. They are so ripe for exposure and ridicule it’s not even funny.

Yeah, my ultimate favorite kids’ movie was the most recent Robin Hood movie with Russell Crowe, but that’s more for my teenagers. It’s an essential embodiment of the Tea Party with a massive heaping individual liberty and personal accountability v. a confiscatory and intrusive government.

But if I call that a kid’s movie, you’re bascially opening the whole litany of movies into the category.

I'd add this one to your list - It's getting raves as A Disney movie in the old tradition - damsel in distress, rescuing prince - with fantastic animation and hilarity.

And if you want good, innocent entertainment at home for small kids, I would suggest the several videos of Shaun the Sheep. Our grandchildren really love it.

Watch Terry Gilliam's Brazil. With the Prisoner TV series, sadly modern day Great Britain looks more and more like 1984.

Other than The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, mine haven’t seen any of this and won’t. They have, however, seen High Noon, Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and The Picture of Dorian Gray. You want conservative messages? Show them films like that - not the candy-coated crap from the last two generations of Hollyweird libs.

Actually, the books are not just about magic, they are largely constructed around alchemy which has a deep tradition in the Christian Church. They also draw on pre-Christian traditions like the hero narratives. And of course, the messianic narrative throughout. Harry goes down into the depths in each book and rises in conjunction of a symbol of Christ. In the last book he is the symbol of Christ. And throughout the books the theme is of self sacrifice and love for others. It is also the modern narrative of acceptance of and love for others, even those who are different like muggles and werewolves and giants. If you are simply relying on the movies, I recommend that you read and reread the books. The movies are wonderful because of the casting and the sets but leave a lot of the wonderful plots out.
