JOHANNESBURG -- A new survey says more than one in three South African men admit to having committed rape.

A 2010 study led by the government-funded Medical Research Foundation says that in Gauteng province, home to South Africa's most populous city of Johannesburg, more than 37 percent of men said they had raped a woman. Nearly 7 percent of the 487 men surveyed said they had participated in a gang rape.

More than 51 percent of the 511 women interviewed said they'd experienced violence from men, and 78 percent of men said they'd committed violence against women.

I will also bet my life that the statistics for rape are slightly less in Zimbabwe because of the higher homicide and starvation rates in that country.

Both countries have strict gun control laws which apparently don't apply for the one between their legs.

Typically, the article left out the race of the perps and victims, just as the media does in the US. Among strangers, there are 3,000 black on white rapes annually, and 10 white on black. Murders reveal a similar pattern. Considering that black men are about 6.5% of the population, it is a stunning number.

A lot depends on how the questions are worded. To some feminists, persisting after hearing "well, I'm not really in the mood tonight..." constitutes rape.
