US political pundits baffled as former Alaska governor gambles on nationwide book tour and reality TV show
"Sarah Palin has done everything wrong according to the traditional way of campaigning," said Scott Rasmussen, a leading pollster and co-author of a book on the Tea Party. "She gave up her position of power as governor of Alaska, she wrote a book for a lot of money, she has her daughter on Dancing with the Stars, she is on her own reality TV show, she's been incredibly partisan in her politics this is everything that a presidential candidate is supposed not to do."
And yet in its own baffling way her anarchic strategy appears to be working.
Even her daughter's performance in a talent competition (she came third in the finals on Tuesday night) has a political significance in Palinland. The same could be said of Sarah Palin's Alaska. Its audience fell over the first two episodes from a record-breaking 5 million to 3 million viewers, but that's still a lot of eyes watching a thinly disguised extended political advertisement in which Palin is presented as a straight-talking "real" American. Not to mention the $250,000 reported fee per episode that can go straight into her political fighting fund.
For Mark McKinnon, who has worked directly with Palin having prepped her for her vice-presidential debate in 2008 against Joe Biden, it adds up to a political marvel. "Sarah Palin is completely rewriting the political rulebook," he said. "She's proving anything is possible, including running for president and winning the GOP [Republican] nomination in 2012."
McKinnon doubts that she could go on and win against Obama in the presidential election proper because she is such a polarising figure, but even then "she's got a habit of turning conventional wisdom upside down".

LMAO...you need some fresh air. You’re obviously having hallucinations of cultists everywhere. Seek help.
I was serious. She is the ONE. Sound familiar?
Don’t forget that “B” movie Hollywood personality who was supporting actor to a chimpanzee in “Bedtime For Bonzo”.
He later narrated a half-hour, short lived, cheezey black & white TV western, “Death Valley Days”, and was featured in every episode alongside a team of twenty mules pulling a wagon load of the soap making ingredient, borax, across a barren, tumbleweed strewn desert. Yessirree Bob, a real presidential character making real presidential appearances with real gravitas.
BTW, that “Death Valley Days” guy was replaced by an unnamed narrator known simply as “The Old Timer”, a grey-bearded, dusty behatted, toothless guy who, by comparison would have made Gabby Hayes look like Clark Gable. Yep! real, real presidential that Ronald Reagan.
“Yes, and of course Palin is the ONLY one who can save this country.”
Ok, then who do you suggest?
Mitt Rommey is the father of Obamacare and gay marriage.
Jim DeMint is a good man, but has no executive experience.
Jim Inhofe was Mayor of Tulsa, but he’ll turn 78 in 2012.
John Thune is a doubtful conservative with no executive experience.
Haley Barbour looks much older than Bob Dole in 1996.
Mark Sanford left his wife for that Argentine lady.
George Allen went Macaca on us.
Mitch Daniels wants to make peace with the Rats before the campaign even starts.
Rick Perry was a Rat for most of his life, and may be under an ethical cloud.
Mike Huckabee pardoned far too many violent criminals.
Chris Christie is a moderate who appointed a Rat as his attorney general and a pro-choice woman as his running mate; but at least he’s got guts.
Is Tim Pawlenty a real conservative?
Should we draft John Hoeven? He’s a banker!
We all want to beat Obama, and are open to suggestions.
So what’s your suggestion?
[I was serious. She is the ONE. Sound familiar?]
And perhaps you will name your favorite.
Thank God enough of us didn’t swallow the “electability” canard in 1980. The idea that the same people who served up Ford, Bush, Dole and McCain (not to mention Landon and Dewey)should lecture us on electability is a stunning example of hubris.
We ain’t swallowing it in 2012 either.
Not to mention the last "bolt-out-of-the-blue" GOP candidate -- the unforgettable Wendell Wilkie in 1940. LOL.
Governor Palin is a genius, IMHO.
Leaders bow to other Kings & Presidents. Leaders organize communities & beer summits. Leaders use teleprompters even in front of school children. Leaders like that get elected every day.
Sarah may be characterized as "polarizing," but let's face it-- no one out there is going to unify the country completely. When 9/11 happened, I told my moderate Democrat girlfriend that the national unity would last about 6 months before the games would begin again.
But this guy is on to something-- Sarah is waging a non-violent political insurgency.
Supposedly, Team Obama used new technologies and techniques in its march to power. Why can't Sarah Palin develop her own new tactics? Only suckers choose to fight on the enemy's terms.

And we KNOW that Barak is such a GOOD uniter!

I wish I had kept the article that was written by someone who had watched Sarah operate as an executive. He talked about how she would listen to all sides and would reach decisions that brought the sides together. He said that she had a photographic memory. I usually keep those kinds of articles, but that one got away from me and it was definitely a keeper.
Link (scroll down to the last post) by a poster on an Indiana Univ. sports message board from someone whose buddy worked with her in the AK legislature (a Democrat).
Fascinating stuff. I can vouch for one thing in that post -- anyone who reads "Sarah Takes On Big Oil" and doesn't think she's intelligent or can't accomplish big things is kidding themselves.
$250K after taxes?
Thank you so much. I have ordered the book “Sarah Takes on Big Oil”. Should have it tomorrow.
Thank you for the link. I’m going to start bookmarking these.
Yes, the rat and GOP establishments are terrified of her.
Palin ‘12 is my choice.
