Todd Lassa Motortrend Editor vs Rush Limbaugh: Chevy Volt Spat [Lassa-driving & Oxycontin don’t mix]

Motortrend magazine has fired back, slamming Rush Limbaugh for his ill-informed critique of the Motortrend Car of the year for 2010 the Chevy Volt by General Motors (GM).

* Chevy Volt, Motortrend Car of the Year 2010 * Chevy Volt Ushers In GM Comeback

Talk show blow hard, Rush Limbaugh has been on a few tirades against GM's Chevy Volt, saying,

Of all the cars in the world, the Chevrolet Volt is the Car of the Year? Motor Trend magazine, that’s the end of them. How in the world do they have any credibility? Not one has been sold [and] the Volt is the Car of the Year.

That prompted this charged response from Motortrend Magazine, editor Todd Lassa

So, Mr. Limbaugh; you didn’t enjoy your drive of our 2011 Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Volt? Assuming you’ve been anywhere near the biggest automotive technological breakthrough since … I don’t know, maybe the self-starter, could you even find your way to the front seat? Or are you happy attacking a car that you’ve never even seen in person?

The Motortrend blog continued its trenchant take down of Rush Limbaugh's irrational arguments against the Chevy Volt, ending with a nasty left hook,

I’m sure GM would be happy to lend you one for the weekend. Just remember: driving and Oxycontin don’t mix.

Motor Trend never did have any credibility.

When it’s about a normal person, the left never forgets anything he has done.

When it’s about a liberal, the left is very quick to forgive.

They [MotorTrend] are getting pretty snippy at being called out on a payoff award, aren’t they. This ranks right on up there with Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize..

So, instead of countering Rush’s criticisms of the car, they make a personal attack on Rush.

Doesn’t that tell you all you need to know? Rush is apparently right once again.

Meanwhile, the Nissan Leaf, made without taxpayer financed bailouts, rebates and incentives hits with a 99 mpg rating, double the “Car of the Year”.

It is the customer's judgment to decide whether or not the Volt is the "biggest automotive technological breakthrough since..."? All advertisers say their products are the latest technology, the biggest, the newest, and the best!

As usual, Rush is correct. But we shall see who is buying the Volt besides the US government directly and indirectly, will we not?

If no one will buy the car without a gummint subsidy and most of the cars sold were bought by the gummint with OUR tax dollars then Rush has every right to voice his opinion.

I stand with Rush.

Rush laughed it off and basically said, “Well, I’ve seen one of those 40 mile to the charge Volts. Frankly I don’t think I’d fit in it and for that matter who the h@ll bought out Motor Trend Magazine anyway? The same folks who own GM? Motor Trend’s credibility is for the most part shot!”

Rush is right, again. The Motor Trend ‘Car of the Year’ award has always been very suspect and carries little weight with most automobile enthusiasts. Most assume it’s bought and paid for, as in this case, where a brand new, basically untried electric car GM is desperate to sell is conveniently given this dubious award. The snarky reference to Rush’s successful (7-year-old) struggle to overcome an Oxycontin addiction is simply classic leftist MO....an irrelevant attack that has no relation to the issue at hand.

IIRC, the “Car of the Year” is a paid-for slot, not an analysts pick. It only means GM offered the most buck for it.

That’s a snotty bitchy reply. But fully up to the standards of Motor Trend.

Motor Trend has been whoring for the highest bidder since Volume 1, Number 1.

ANd the VOlt his showrooms when?

And It’s Car of the Year already? While MotorTrend may have a special “preview” edition put together by engineers as opposed to the general assembly line, it will in no way be reflective of “end of line” quality. It will have all sorts of tweaks that the showroom models will not.

Limbaugh is right.....again. Case closed.

Nice car. All you need is $8 million and the ability to find 190 octane gas.

Mortor Trend’s Car of the Year now has as much prestige as the Nobel Peace Prize.

I used to subscribe to Car and Driver (best) and Road & Track (also very good).

I only bought Motor Trend a few times. The writing is not nearly as good as in the other two.
