The American political climate for achieving change is very, very ugly, according to Bruce Springsteen, as he launched a staunch defence of Barack Obama.
"There's a widespread political consciousness that's perhaps deeper in Europe than it is in the States, he told the Sunday Times magazine.
The climate [in America] is very, very ugly for getting things done. The moderate reforms President Obama fought to make are called Marxist, socialist.
I mean, the most extreme language is put into play to describe the most modest reforms that would move the economy back towards serving a majority of its citizens.
The musician, often referred to as "The Boss", added: You have a guy [Mr Obama] who comes in, he gets to be president for four years. Maybe eight.
But you have the financial institutions, you have the military, the corporations. They're in play constantly and, in truth, they're shaping the economy and shaping the direction the US is moving in.
Those forces are huge. The money and lobbyists are pouring in to do everything they can [to preserve the status quo]. It's a very tough time, a very hard time here in the States."
In his interview, Springsteen admitted that his decision to support Mr Obama had alienated some of his fans.
He once criticised Ronald Reagan, the late American President, for using his name to rally Republican voters in the 1980s.
"A moment comes when you cash in whatever credibility a guy can have who plays and sings rock songs for a living and you put your chips where you think they might do some good, he said.

“Bruce Springsteen: ‘The boss’ rails against ‘very ugly’ political climate surrounding Barack Obama”
For once he’s right. When you consider Axlerod, the cabinet secretaries, and especially the czars, Bruce nailed it this time.
Brucie’s just way too cool for me.
All those “cool” looks he’d try to give when the MTV cam would do a close-up or that phony pulling the girl out of the front row to dance with her on stage.
What a fake. Music and politics both.
Entertainers, used car salesmen, politicians, lawyers. Yech. Pox on all of them.
Somebody shouts and wails for a living while bashing a guitar — that gives them a license to pontificate on the great matters of our times?
Moderate?
Hey Bruce, go smoke some more pot.
Oh and by the way Nils Lofgren kicks your sorry ***
Whereas the president must be cautious, dutiful, and deferential at home, his character must change abroad. Were he to ask for a primer on how to act in relation to other states, which no holder of the office has needed to this point, and were that primer to be written by the American people, whether of 1776 or 2010, you can be confident that it would contain the following instructions:
You do not bow to kings. Outside our shores, the President of the United States of America bows to no man. When in foreign lands, you do not criticize your own country. You do not argue the case against the United States, but the case for it. You do not apologize to the enemies of the United States. Should you be confused, a country, people, or region that harbors, shelters, supports, encourages, or cheers attacks upon our country or the slaughter of our friends and families are enemies of the United States. And, to repeat, you do not apologize to them.
Any questions, rock star?
Lighten up Bwuce!
The boss - idiot savant.
music - savant
All else - idiot
Seems to be a virus endemic to lib arts types.
Coming from a stinking draft dodger, I don’t think I need to be preached to. Another disgusting lefty-loony.
AMEN!
Sounds like he's desperate to sell a few more $100.00 box sets.
Words on target and I never thought much of him or his music. Bruce is and I will use a Jamaican term: a bumbaclat midget.
Uh...he can't sing...he just hollers. So I guess he should just shut up.
Don’t need any advice from a POS who told his draft board that he was a homo to avoid serving.
There you are, all you Boss fans. Give me The Flamingos or The Jive Five or Frankie Vallie and the Four Seasons anyday.
Bruce opens his mouth and shows himself to be an idiot.
Born in the CP-USA...
Bruce, you master of history, you....Barack ran in Illinois for senate in 1997 as the New Party candidate (hint - that’s the name the socialist party goes by in Illinois)...
You know you’re up against a mental giant when they get pissed you call an actual socialist, “socialist”.
So, this interview makes headlines and lengthy articles in the Sunday Times and the Telegraph?
Why was this worth reporting at all, outside of a music column somewhere?
Why would anybody give a flip what that washed up no talent moron thinks?
There. Fixed it.
“”The moderate reforms President Obama fought to make are called Marxist, socialist””
Brucy does not seem to understand that it is the mega rich
fat cats like Soros, that he railed against, that are Obamie’s puppet masters.
They want all the power, while the masses are forceed
to live under a Communist dictatorship.
Maybe Brucy is vying for a position as court jester.
As others have noted, Brucy needs to shut up and sing.
He needs to just shut up and sing. Don’t need a brain for that, and I think his leaked out somewhere along the line.
