"It is not a good policy to have these massive subsidies for (U.S.) first generation ethanol," said Gore, speaking at a green energy business conference in Athens sponsored by Marfin Popular Bank. "First generation ethanol I think was a mistake. The energy conversion ratios are at best very small. Gore: "It's hard once such a programme is put in place to deal with the lobbies that keep it going. One of the reasons I made that mistake is that I paid particular attention to the farmers in my home state of Tennessee, and I had a certain fondness for the farmers in the state of Iowa because I was about to run for president."

He probably realizes that Republicans are going to look at it. And one of the justifications for killing it, is that you aren't conserving hardly any gasoline because mpg drops when you add the ethanol. And you probably are increasing green house gas emissions by the time you consider additional fertilizer and such.
So Gore is just doing the faux leader thing. Figure out where the crowd is going and get out in front of it.
gump had a fondness for tobacco farmers as well. donks have a fondness for the dead as long as they vote for them.
Just about everything you have embraced and done for the last 12 years has been totally wrong. Your total ignorance was showing, and you fooled the average voter, totally.
Now, if you will just let go of the "global warming" BS, you can start over.
"It's dead, Jim."
Now, go away like a good retired ignoramus.
He’s wanting to try something completely different??? And maybe it’s because he’s lost all credibility to the extent that even the Enviro-Nazis are dumping him. I mean come on, how can even the most brain-dead Green Weenie defend him buying a massive $9,000,000,000 villa in California?
Lead trial balloon. Gore smells betrays political blood in the water. Obamas unelectable in 2012.
Dont bother Gore. You are the poster child for “don’t have a snow balls chance in hell.”
Ethanol production yields about the same pounds of carbon dioxide as pounds of ethanol (and about the same pounds of high quality animal feed). I was wondering how long it would taking carbon pimps to admit this.
Not to mention the vast amounts of water that is required to make just one gallon of ethanol.....
HAS HELL FROZE OVER?
This jerk doesn’t even realize what a damning confession he has made. It’s like Clinton who said that Robert Byrd had to connect himself with the KKK because he was running for office.
” Wonder why and why now? “
Pump & dump - he’s filled the Gore Family coffers with ‘shrewd’ investments, and now it’s time to cash out, before the bottom falls out......
Once again after wasting years of effort and a hundred million dollars, democRATS find out what conservatives knew FROM DAY ONE. They are like perpetual teenagers who repeatedly do stupid things that their parents warn them are doomed to failure.
Al Gore being truthful? Wonder why and why now?
No longer an Iowa Caucus in his future, Kemosahbee.....
Yes, and no. He, along with all the other con artists in politics have been getting away with it for so long, they no longer care, banking on 1.) the short voter attention span, and 2.) the LSM supports the all the lies, bad policies, and the like.
Running for POTUS, he came up with his lame-brain line about a Social Security "lock-box". I can't think of anybody in the LSM that pointed out that it should have been a mandatory fiduciary responsibility from the get-go (LBJ aside), "so why didn't you campaign for it at the very beginning of your political 'career'"?
Holy Crap!
Al Gore makes sense and tells truth.
I’m going to wish I kept my Parka when I moved from Alaska to Houston if the world is going to invert.
If people don’t like the subsidies paid for corn ethanol, they are REALLY gonna hate subsidies needed for cellulosic ethanol.
It makes the corn ethanol people look like geniuses.
Even though I live in Iowa I have always thought that ethanol was a scam. If you drive 3 hours in any direction you will encounter several closed ethanol plants. Even Steve King supports this crap. No government subsidies for ethanol!!!!
He seems to only be critical of “first generation” ethanol. The crap we got 30 years ago from Carter and his brain fart.
Thirty years ago people made bad investments in ethanol and they should be just as bad now. From that time back in the 80s the skeletons of abandoned ethanol plants gone bad littered the landscape and they should do the same now.
It is as bad now as it was then. Stupid policy.
And what OTHER suggestions of yours are not good policy, Al?
