Glenn Beck said today that he has spoken to military experts about the mystery contrail from a few weeks ago and he says it’s definitely not a plane, but rather a two stage missile. He just wants to know where it came from, and he has a theory. Beck postulates that this missile was possibly from a Chinese sub off the coast of California, perhaps as a show of force to the world, but even more so to President Obama.

Sure are a lot of folks who have relatively little to do with such things
who are convinced of their ‘expert’ level assessment skils.
Some I respect as still being quite smart blokes on average. Doesn’t mean they are brilliant about everything.

I haven’t checked, but I’m sure the “truth” can be found on the Obama Whitehouse website. They did a great job with making sure we all knew the “truth” about obamacare. Gosh golly gee...............I just don’t understand why anyone would doubt the “government” and all of those “agencies” that keep us safe.
You forgot the third, knowledgeable freepers who saw or have seen similar contrails who claim it was probably an airplane.

Yes, this is absolutely -- and obviously -- a faucet hovering in midair. There is no other explanation. Anyone who says otherwise is a sheeple. Glenn Beck will be doing a show on it next week.

It wasn't a missile. It was Flight UPS902. There's really no doubt about it.
There are two things going on. The first is that the contrail is being blown leftward by the wind, which makes the course appear to be angling more rightward than it is. The second is that the perceived angle between lines varies with their orientation relative to the viewing point. Your graphic totally fails to take into account the possiblilty that the plane is flying towards the viewer. It fails to take into account that this is a 3D world, not a 2D world. This a very basic error.
In your still photo the “contrail” has the lighting of a single cylinder (or elongated cone, but lets call it a cylinder) with the light source, the sun setting in the west, that is perpendicular to the observer. The light source is perpendicular to the observer because the demarcation between light and dark on the cylinder or cone is right down the middle.
If the “contrail” is near the horizon and the sun is in the west and the observer is perpendicular to the source, the observer must be facing directly south to see a cylinder almost perfectly half-lit from the west. The coast of CA wraps around and faces more to the south than southwest near LA in places and even directly south in some places.
If the “contrail” is horizontal and perfectly half-lit from the west a jet aircraft would need to be flying from south to north to be illuminated from the west by the setting sun. Only a flight coming north from Mexico, not coming east from Hawaii, would have such a contrail illuminated on the west side.
If the cylinder is the plume of a missile and is vertically aligned, the perpendicular illumination by the sun from the west also required the observer to be facing south towards the launch site.
I have no missile experience and only HS geometry, but that is what I see, recognizing that appearances can be deceiving.
Well, mark this former NASA / NORAD engineer down in the pro-missile category.

NOT always true! Look up 'persistent contrails.' They can grow in ice volume and last 20 hours or more. It depends upon the temperature and humidity.

Flightaware also shows the plane flying over Santa Catalina island, not north of it, as shown in the graphic where the missile was spotted.

I clearly remember Shepard Smith of Fox news standing in from the the twin towers fires on 9/11 telling the audience that they are no longer going to show live pictures of the attack ‘because Americans can’t take it’
I also remember the news of TWA 800 where many stories of a missile sighting came out, until the networks settled on the story they wanted to tell.
Average citizens used to be able to listen in on the breaking news feeds, but that has changed because the news organizations can’t control the stories when people can hear the initial reports.
