This annoys the hell out of me, because I'm not some rabid Palinista. Crap like this from Barbara Bush leaves one no alternative but to respond to it. What, does she have another son, or a grand kid lined up for the job of President? Reagan handed your husband his, despite some misgivings, and he blew it, Barbara.
And as much as I supported her husband and her son while they were in office, they've hardly gotten us to a great place. Guess what? If not for 9/11, GW may well have been a one-term-er, just like his father. He barely escaped losing to John freaking Kerry. In fact, he barely defeated Gore in 2000. So, just how wise is this new found Bush wisdom? I don't see much in the record to support it, short of the political calculations of some consultants concerned more with winning elections, than the nation's politics.
"I sat next to her once. Thought she was beautiful," Barbara Bush said. "And she's very happy in Alaska, and I hope she'll stay there."
Bush, along with her husband, former President George H.W. Bush, spoke to CNN's Larry King in an interview set to air Monday.
President Bush discussed the Tea Party movement, and although he said "some of the ideas make a lot of sense," he said he isn't sure how the new movement will fit into the larger political landscape.
Read my lips, the same can be said for the price of bread and broken tax pledges.
And as for Mona Charen's, Why Sarah Palin Shouldn't Run item at Townhall, congrats Mona, you finally found something to write about and make yourself relevant, again. I can't recall anything you've done in the last two years that's generated any real interest outside the usual Beltway set you write for. If Sarah Palin has a secret weapon, it's how distasteful and classless are so many of the GOP establishment types lined-up against her. If they were nearly as smart as they fancy themselves to be, they'd probably just shut-up and let the chips fall where they may.
When I saw the headline on this post, I thought it was referring to Barbara Bush, W’s daughter, who also needs to shut up. She is pro Obamacare and a big Lib, probably partly due to her humanitarian visits to third world countries. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
The perverted disliking of GWB and his family on this site is pathetic. Even more so when those same people are seriously trying to suggest that Palin has done anything even close for our Nation than has/did GWB. The lady couldn't even handle the heat of staying Gov of RED State Alaska for crying out loud.
I was watching this TV interview and, at first, couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing. After a bit of thought and knowing that the Washington elites somehow believe that it is their birthright to tell us what to do (and I include Democrats and Republicans in that knowledge), I realized that Barbara Bush was simply saying what she believed to be right. People like her are unable to imagine that anyone, other they they, has a single notion that trumps their idea of what is right for the country.
The Tea Parties have their hands full, my friends. The Tea Parties believe that they can keep those recently elected in line. In the end, they may be able to, but it's going to be an ongoing, never ending fight.
It only seems like yesterday when we had the ubiquitous “PRAY FOR PRESIDENT BUSH” threads on FR. Oh, how the times have changed. I am glad we have finally come to our senses and realized the long due fact that these RINOS have destroyed the country as much as the libs.
Yep. And that's why I changed my voter registration from "Republican" to "Unenrolled" (Independent) in 2009....
I will never "re-enroll" in the GOP until or unless they recover their "constitutional senses."
I'm sick and tired of hanging around with a gang whose favorite sport is shooting themselves and/or each other in the foot.... These are not "serious" people not when it comes to the defense of our historic American Liberty.
Of course it can be said that the Democrat party is similarly "divided" nowadays. And that would be true. There are (or rather used to be) such critturs as "blue-dog" or "moderate" or "centrist" Democrats.
The point is, these folk are mainly out of office now, the first victims of the "progress" of the Left wing of their party, which with their political demise, seemingly now has a lock practically and ideologically on a great American political institution. The historic Democratic party died on November 2, IMHO FWIW.
The point is, the Dem party is now fully within the grasp and power of its most Leftward ideological component. Which is, of course, definitely helpful to the plans of Commissar Obama and his Commissariat in Washington....
Meanwhile, the political "Right" is conducting intra-party warfare....
Don't these stupid fools realize that, if you are at war, and your opponent is a radical extremist of the totalitarian type, then probably your best bet to successfully fight him is to field the most radically "extreme" person(s) from your side? That is, radical extremist champions of the Constitution and its values?
To put it another way, if a man has a knife at your throat, do you "call a meeting to resolve differences" about how you might best be rescued from this situation? Or do you hope that there's friendly countermanding "firepower" in your immediate vicinity that can save your butt?
Thanks for writing, Mr. Mojo it's good to hear from you!

BB was never irrelevent, she was the moneybags.
True, but the other side of the coin is an unwillingness to see flaws in Palin. If you think Sarah's the anointed one who'll set everything right you'll read more into Bab's remarks than people who have questions or doubts about Palin will. Take both sides into account -- Barbara's establishment background and personality on the one hand and doubts about Sarah and her temperament on the other -- and the controversy starts to look more about an old lady's catty remarks than about political Armageddon.
True, there is the other side of the coin where one in unwilling to see the flaws in Palin or any candidate of choice.
That said, one doesn't have to think that Sarah Palin is "the anointed one", in order to think that Barbara Bush's faint-praise-about-beauty remark, and her I-hope-she-stays-in-Alaska remark, aren't constructive or realistic, "questions or doubts".
I don't think it's necessarily an "Armageddon". I do think, at the very least, it represents an out-of-touch and self-centered establishment mindset.
There's a pattern of it, in both timing and substance.
George H.W. Bush was a Navy fighter pilot in WWII. He was shot down over the Pacific and escaped capture on the high seas for two days until rescued.
Some milquetoast.
I remember a White House “education” conference in the fall of 1989 when GHWB just got all excited over “Governor Clinton” taking the time to come to the White House for a “unity” session. I don’t think our party can learn.
You go ahead and do that. Still, it makes you look no better than the people that tell our side to shut up.
I've never told anybody to "shut-up" in the almost 12 years that I've been here.
Either you believe in the right to free speech, or you dont. There is no reason that you have to agree with her, but she has a right to say it.
Huh, what?
I don't recall advocating that government make laws abridging the freedom of speech.
Yes, we would like her to be quiet. But...why act like the other side.
You mean like Barbara Bush.
She wished that Sarah would stay in Alaska.
The author of this thread wished that Barbara would shut-up.
Seems like an appropriate answer to the comment.
Hey Barbara....(respectfully :) Please tend to Millie (the dog)
and let H.W. & W / Lara enjoy their free-time in private life.
Leave Palin & the TEA Parties alone...
And tell the your GOP Blue-bloods / RINOs to GO TO HELL!

(otoh :) We All said "The Same" repeatedly....
since 1991 and some much earlier, like Slick Willie.
If Palin is worthy of being president, then she has to be able to take criticism.
We can come together if and when she is the nominee.
“I sat next to her once. Thought she was beautiful,” Barbara Bush said. “And she’s very happy in Alaska, and I hope she’ll stay there.”
What a snobbish comment Barbie.
“If Palin is worthy of being president, then she has to be able to take criticism.”
This wasn’t even valid criticism. It was just a snotty, snobby, ill defined comment.
If the Elites don’t want to see a third party, perhaps they ought to pay more attention to what We The People want. I realize that’s not in the thinking of the ruling class, but they’d best get used to the concept because we’re not going away.
