Is the TSA allowing convicted rapists to perform pat-down searches?
AirSafe.com ^ | 11-3-10 | Staff

Last Thursday, without much fanfare, TSA announced that it would start a new screening procedure that would include more pat-down searches nationwide. USA Today reports that in the new procedures, screeners' hands would slide over a passenger's body, requiring screeners to touch passengers' breasts and genitals. In addition to questions over whether this change is necessary or effective, another question that many passengers may have in the backs of their minds is whether the TSA screeners have a criminal background that should preclude them from such sensitive duties

TSA has a duty to reexamine back-ground checks of its OWN EMPLOYEES as current checks aren't getting the job done. In the meantime, the gropings and strip searches continue unchecked.

“Perverts With Power, Revisited”

“Doug Melvin: Sexual deviant, former Homeland Security commissar — or do I repeat myself?

For those frequently sentenced to commercial air travel, few things are less welcome than the following thought:

The taxpayer-fed Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at the airport security checkpoint could be a petty thief or a sexual deviant. And the odds are pretty good that the typical batch of TSA chair-moisteners includes at least one or the other. This makes things quite uncomfortable as TSA screeners paw through one’s luggage or conduct invasive personal security inspections.

About a year ago, a TSA airport screener in Ketchum, Idaho was arrested for kidnapping a young boy. Although identified as Robert Joe Harrison Jr., the screener was found to possess at least five separate identities. He was eventually acquitted of kidnapping, but found guilty of child enticement....”

(snip)
“To the cases of Harrison, Melvin, and Figueroa we can add that of J. Brian Doyle, the former fourth-ranking official in DHS’s propaganda directorate, who was arrested for conducting sexually explicit cyber-conversations with what he thought was a cancer-stricken 14-year-old girl. And we shouldn’t forget the case of Michael Burks, the Homeland Security official snared in NBC Dateline’s “To Catch a Predator” sting roughly a year ago.

The problem, of course, is not that there’s a small number of perverts scattered through the DHS’s personnel pool like a handful of raisins in several gallons of rice pudding. The deeper cause for concern is the culture of impunity that characterizes that elephantine bureaucracy – a sense that those who work therein are made of holier, more refined stuff than the hoi polloi...”

Got a much better idea. Rather than wasting time examining background checks, how about eliminate the idiotic and illegal searches of passengers? No police officer can simply randomly pull you over and commit a similar style of search of your person without valid probable cause, so why permit some hack TSA employee to do it?

These are people being groped because they refused to participate in a virtual strip search. The ‘probable cause’ being that they're customers of an airline which the TSA doesn't have to answer to. And if the airlines decide that they've had enough of this stupidity, it's the TSA who not only gets to pick who wins the contract to replace them, but STILL gets to determine all the policies, including these illegal strip searches without the slightest probable cause.

Seriously, what does a ceramic knife matter on a flight now adays? You can't get to the pilots, and the passengers certainly aren't going to sit around like sheep anymore trained to pacifisty. They're going to get up and beat the stuffing out of any idiot that tries to hijack a flight. And what plane is going to be brought down by a heroine syringe?

And fines for deciding that you don't wish to participate in this insanity and decide to leave the airport? Penalties for opting out of an illegal search?

This has got to stop, because those machines are already being installed in our nation's courthouses, and likely will be at the entrance to congress. It is the politicians who should be naked before the people, not the people disrobing to satisfy some nirvana of safety that’ll never be attained and truthfully shouldn't be attained.

Absolutely!!!!! Their hypocrisy is astounding. But the point should remain that they have been completely negligent from the start in screening their own.

Ask a voter for his ID before he casts his ballot? Racism, a return to the poll tax.

Fondling and groping of everyone passing through an airport, from toddlers to the elderly, in addition to requiring two forms of identification?

Hey, may run afoul of the fourth amendment, but that’s how it’s gonna be.

If something is wrong to begin with, whatever wrongs that come out of it doesn't really much matter. The TSA should never have been created in the first place. I think there should be Strip Search Airlines as well as 2nd Amendment Air. We have a supposed capitalistic society where the consumers are empowered to make buying choices, but instead, we are sheepishly confounded by a TSA that puts itself between us and the airlines, just as we sheepishly let county boards decide that Happy Meals shouldn't be permitted to have toys, because it doesn't meet some nutritional standard.

That there's deviants in the TSA is to me less of a threat than the wholesale abridging of our constitutional rights to be secure in our papers and person without a valid search warrant.

That they made yet another bad decision in not investigating or in actually more likely completely and utterly ignoring the backgrounds of those they hire is a symptom, not the disease.

The TSA is blatanly breaking the law (4th Amendment) with this policy. The lawsuits are underway.

What makes it much, much worse is they have employed some who belong behind bars the rest of their lives. But instead, how many are out there working tonight, touching gawking at or assaulting men, women and children?
