“...Got a much better idea. Rather than wasting time examining background checks, how about eliminate the idiotic and illegal searches of passengers?”

Absolutely!!!!! Their hypocrisy is astounding. But the point should remain that they have been completely negligent from the start in screening their own.

If something is wrong to begin with, whatever wrongs that come out of it doesn't really much matter. The TSA should never have been created in the first place. I think there should be Strip Search Airlines as well as 2nd Amendment Air. We have a supposed capitalistic society where the consumers are empowered to make buying choices, but instead, we are sheepishly confounded by a TSA that puts itself between us and the airlines, just as we sheepishly let county boards decide that Happy Meals shouldn't be permitted to have toys, because it doesn't meet some nutritional standard.

That there's deviants in the TSA is to me less of a threat than the wholesale abridging of our constitutional rights to be secure in our papers and person without a valid search warrant.

That they made yet another bad decision in not investigating or in actually more likely completely and utterly ignoring the backgrounds of those they hire is a symptom, not the disease.
